Associative complexes

Associative complexes – When blended with other polymers or phenolics, POLYOX™Water-Soluble Resins can create adhesives that bond to glass, steel, painted metal, and paper. They can also contribute to the performance of pressure sensitive and solvent soluble adhesives. POLYOX Water-Soluble Resins are water soluble, compatible, and can increase strength of water borne adhesives by modifying rheology and improve substrate wetting. They have a wide pH tolerance range.

Billboard adhesives –POLYOX Water-Soluble Resins provide excellent adhesion to paper and polymer materials, good wet tack, and good formulation consistency.

Carpet backsizing compounds – METHOCEL™ Cellulose Ethers impart excellent foaming characteristics or "pan froth" to backsizing compounds. This helps keep the adhesive in the glue line instead of soaking into the backing materials. Also, due to thermal gelation, adhesives set quickly and dry faster at elevated temperatures.

Hot melt adhesives –ETHOCEL™ Ethylcellulose polymers form hot melts that are easily heat sealed. ETHOCEL Polymers contribute added strength especially where stresses may be applied to a freshly sealed joint. ETHOCEL Polymers are used on hot melt package sealing adhesives and for bonding laminates of paper, cellophane, metal, foil, glassine, and many other non-melting sheet materials.

Labeling adhesives – As components of labeling adhesives, POLYOX Water-Soluble Resins provide excellent adhesion to paper and polymer label materials, good wet tack, and good formulation consistency.

Latex adhesives – METHOCEL Cellulose Ethers are used as thickeners in a variety of latex adhesives, such as adhesives used in shoe manufacturing. Fast drying speeds and high wet-tack strength due to thermal gelation are key benefits in many of these applications.

Leather processing adhesives –METHOCEL Cellulose Ethers are used to paste hides to smooth porcelain or glass surfaces in leather drying processes. Because of its water retention efficiency and thermal gelation, METHOCEL is much more effective than starch-based pastes.

Plywood laminating adhesives –METHOCEL products are used in plywood laminating adhesives to control viscosity in glues for plywood manufacture. Thermal gelation and thickening properties of METHOCEL products keep the adhesive from soaking into the wood.

Polymerization aid – As a polymerization aid, CELLOSIZE™ Hydroxyethyl Cellulose polymers provide phase control stabilization. They are especially noted for their chemical compatibility with boric acid.

Tail tie and pickup adhesives for papermaking – POLYOX Water-Soluble Resins are used in both tail tie and pickup adhesives for rolled toilet tissue and paper toweling. They offer excellent water solubility, repulpability on recycled waste streams, and an excellent toxicity profile.
