Task: Different ways of using texts in the EFL classroom
Objectives: in this activity you will have the opportunity to
Revise and apply the theoretical contents included in unit 4.
Reflect upon the different ways of using a text in the English classroom.
Learn how to design activities to present and work on different skills.
Methodology: read carefully unit 4. Select a text you consider interesting and appropriate to be used in primary education. Design and explain in detail three different activities in which you exploit the text as (one activity for each purpose):
A vehicle for information.
A linguistic object.
A stimulus for production.
Activity:
Select a text suitable for primary education and design one activity for each of the following ways of using texts: a vehicle for information, a linguistic object and as a source for information. Please, remember to include the following steps:
A description of the target group (number of students, age, level, special needs, nationality, mother tongue …).
Length of time for the activity.
Teaching/Learning objectives.
Materials used (if you use songs, stories, etc., include, at least, the title).
Classroom arrangement (rows, circles, horseshoes, how the class is organized, whether the teacher is the focus of attention or not, etc.).
Lessons procedure: explain in detail the steps you will follow, include examples of the students’ expected outcomes, etc.
