Torreón is a city in the Mexican state of Coahuila.
It is the ninth-biggest metropolitan area in the country and is one of Mexico's most
important economic and industrial centers.

Occupation and Industry
While analyzing the official statistics given by INEGI (Spanish: Instituto Nacional de
Estadistica y Geografia, National Institute of Statistic and Geography) we could observe
that 62.9% of the population in Torreón is employed by the most important industries in
the city and state which are: Automobile Production, Metal industries, Generation and
distribution of electric energy, Mining, Clothing Industry, Manufacturing of cement and
cement products, Dairy production and Telecommunication operators. The areas thus
comprise the main source of employment.
The rest of the working population being 5.3% of the total, is employed by various
businesses as managers, healthcare professionals etc.
Median Family Income
The average Mexican who lives in Torreón or in the state of Coahuila earns $32.41 pesos
the equivalent to $1.63 dollars per hour. The regular income by month is $6,220.8 pesos
equal to $313.00 dollars.
Per INEGI the average Mexican family consists of 5 to 8 members, of which 4 need to
work to provide food, housing and utilities.
Percent of Families Below the Poverty Level
There is a total of 12,895 families in a poverty status which are found in the city of Torreón,
making it the 13.1% of the total population.
This families according to CONEVAL (Spanish: Consejo Nacional de Evaluación de la
Política de Desarrollo Social, National Council for the Evaluation of Social Development
Policy), don’t have access to potable water, electricity, sewer system. In addition, 2.8%
just have one room and 1.6% of people live in apartments with soil floors.

workers; Meanwhile Arts & Recreation has 1,573 with Life, physical, & social science
occupations and Protective Service Occupations.
Contrary to Beverly Hills, most of the jobs in Torreón are executed by people who are
