Assignment to be completed before Workshop One
- Give the definition for each vocabulary word:
a. Journalist – noun - A person who writes for newspapers or magazines or prepares news to be broadcast on radio or television. Synonyms: reporter, correspondent, columnist, writer, commentator, reviewer
b. Ethical issues - Pertaining to or dealing with morals or the principles of morality; pertaining to right and wrong in conduct. Being in accordance with the rules or standards for right conduct or practice, especially the standards of a profession.
c. Shocking event - extremely startling, distressing, or offensive. The emotional or physical reaction to) a sudden, unexpected, and usually unpleasant event or experience.
d. Shame - A feeling of guilt, regret, or sadness that you have because you know you have done something wrong: ability to feel guilt, regret, or embarrassment: dishonor or disgrace
e. Scandal - An occurrence in which people are shocked and upset because of behavior that is morally or legally wrong: talk about the shocking or immoral things that people have done or are believed to have done: something that is shocking, upsetting, or unacceptable
f. Aggressiveness - ready and willing to fight, argue, etc.: feeling or showing aggression
: using forceful methods to succeed or to do something medical: very severe
g. Embarrassing situation - verb (used with object) 1.to cause confusion and shame to; make uncomfortably self-conscious; disconcert; abash: 2. to make difficult or intricate, as a question or problem; complicate. 3. To put obstacles or difficulties in the way of; impede: 4. To beset with financial difficulties; burden with debt: verb (used without object) 5. To become disconcerted, abashed, or confused
h. Paparazzi - a freelance photographer who aggressively pursues celebrities for the purpose of taking candid photographs.
i. Propaganda – ideas or statements that are often false or exaggerated and that are spread in order to help a cause, a political leader, a government, etc.
