SHAKE ALERT SYSTEM
RECENT DISCOVER!
Nowadays technology is everywhere, any kind of people use it, to children of 5 years up to old timers.
A recent earthquake showed that the “ShakeAlert System” really works. 10 seconds before the start of the 6.0 magnitude earthquake in California, a group of investigators of the university of UC Berkley received an alert that the earthquake was going to happen.
Therefore, the objective of this system is to alert you 40 or 50 seconds before the earthquake, this will be very helpful. But now a 10 second “alert” will be enough time? The answer is yes, this 10 second period is enough to do immediate actions like stopping the elevator, slow train speed or give the fireman a quick notice for them to start preparing for help. Once it is fully developed it could have the range of 40 to 50 seconds, imagine this app, you will be advice than an earthquake is approaching, and this will give you some time to go to a safe place near your location.
The “ShakeAlert System” works thanks to its vast ability to transmit information at the speed of light. The sensors located nearly to the epicentre capture the waves with seconds in advance; this will send the alert to the near locations.
For now the system emits a very thunderous sound, a count down of the situation that is approaching, the expected insensitive, the estimated magnitude and a map of the location.
This idea started developing few years ago, with the idea to be implemented in all the California state, but there is a lack of finance in the project.
Governor Jerry Berry Brown approved a bill to create an early warning system. However, “ShakeAlert System” doesn’t have enough support with their work. It will cost $80 million over five years to test and deploy the system and another $12 million a year for operational costs.
The system for now is private and on testing. Funds to test “ShakeAlert System” are currently provided by: the Bay Area Rapid Transit System, Google, the City of San Francisco and The Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation. Currently there is no national early warning system in the United States of America.
