Mexico’s Health Care System

  • Lack of material and human resources
  • Highly segmented
  • Deteriorated physical infrastructure
  • Inadequated distribution of health facilities

For the last 10 or 20 years, Mexico has been a country with no stabilization; this main problem has different reasons. One of the most important reasons is the health care system that has always been a disorder. That makes hard for people to be helped.

In Mexico the difference between the private and public institutions is immense. 46% of the total population lives in poverty, maybe more. Lower and medium class requires public health care system, which is why these institutions are overcrowded most of the time. The economic problems are reflected in public organizations; lack of material and human resources, deteriorated physical infrastructure, inadequate distribution of health facilities, plus the long bureaucratic procedures.

There is a poor hospital organization and the economic incomes are not well distributed. Medicine has progressed and new technologies are used nowadays, but unfortunately, the public sector in our country, can’t benefit from these advances.

On the other hand, private health care system could be more efficient, but that is because people are paying lots of money, as it has been mentioned, only a little percent of the total population can have this benefits.

As a conclusion, it is a right for people to have an active and effective health care system whether it's public or private according to their needs and possibilities, and if this is conceivable, Mexico’s situation could be changing in an important way.
