The Apocalyptic Games

April May was a girl with quite a funny name, but for her luck, her story wasn’t the same way. She lived very far away, among the many islands in the Caribbean, a place she despised known as the Sovereign Union of ROTH, a country full of injustice, corruption, cruelty and more; it was divided in 3 different cities, city 1 for the rich (where she belonged), city 2, where the middle class lived, and city 3 for the disappointment of all this country. The worst part is that her own blood was the one that made her birthplace this way, because the governor of this nation was Treznor May, her own father.

While she only had one friend within the walls of city 1, Hugo Riddle, she valued him a lot, since he was the only person of her age who didn’t treat her as royalty. He was the sarcastic, nerdy, nice boy a family would approve of, and even though she saw him as a brother, he could never see her like a sister. While she could get more friends outside of city 1, her father had prohibited her that because he didn’t want April (Month, called by her friends) to know about the reality outside the privileged city. Even with such prohibitions from her dad, when she was barely a 12 year old teenager who saw the world as pink as it was painted, she broke the rules and saw how different people in city 2 saw her; they hated her for carrying with her a dictator’s blood… But still, she got to meet two nice and strange kids who accepted her as she was, who took the mission of teaching her how the real world was… These were Zachary Hunt and his girlfriend Carol Hayden who became her best friends, they would infiltrate into city 1 not caring about the consequences, and the three of them as time passed started creating their own book of casualties that occur when you break the rules.

Later in the year 4,176 Treznor decided to create ‘’The Hunger Games’’ since he wanted to threaten people because a rebellion had just occurred and this was going to make clear that city 1, would always be the most powerful one, but he never thought that his daughter would offer herself as a tribute so a little girl didn’t have to face such a terrible fate. 18 people were called, 3 girls and 3 boys from each city, to represent their values and strengths. In the middle of the games, many hard choices were made, one of them occurred when April had to either kill a tribute or watch him suffer until death, and when she ended his life, she discovered that when a tribute was murdered, they didn’t become mutants, they became zombies.

This IT girl got to survive thanks to her friends, because, while she didn’t know how to live in a world filled with dead people since she always had everything she needed, her friends taught her the ways to lead her to survival. But, peace had to be destroyed since madness started destroying even the people outside the game, even her family was murdered by a herd of zombies, leaving her with nothing more than her pain and depression , but then she remembered her best friends was still there. She got closer specifically with Zachary, and even though she knew that he had a girlfriend, they started feeling something about each other, giving Carol a reason to hate both of them. Even that glimpse of hope she felt, vanished when her love was killed and transformed into a zombie; without a family, without her heart, with a best friend who hated her and Hugo Riddle lost in the middle of pandemonium. She had nothing left to fight for.

April May was alone in the middle of city 3, the remains of ROTH, April had an internal conflict with everything that was happening to her.

‘‘Why does this happen to me? What did I do to deserve this? My friends… My family… My whole life has just been taken away from me. One decision has made all of this possible. All of this is because of my father… And now I don’t even have him by my side to protect me and repair all of this. What’s the point of living if all I have left is misery?’’

April was searching for refugee as she talked, and then she found a tank full of radioactive residues, which made her think that maybe this was a signal. And without hesitation, with nothing to care about, she took a decision, and jumped.
