Alcohol is a substance that has numerous diverse effects on the body-both positive and negative. Alcohol not only kills brain cells, but when taken in profusion it has almost no constructive effects. Sure it can make one overlook his/her problems, but the consequences of drinking in excess are many. It is the most widely used and socially acceptable drug in the world. In today's modern society alcohol addiction and alcohol abuse has become one of the most complex, life-threatening issues and it has become one of the most talked-about topics in the world. Many countries have been concerned in whether apply policies to allow underage drinking or refuse to it. There are many reasons why underage drinking shouldn’t be allowed in countries.
One of the main reasons why underage drinking shouldn’t be an idea is because allowing teens to consume alcohol can make them more vulnerable to drug and substance abuse. With the more alcohol consumption a teen has it makes them more vulnerable to other situations like violence and sex. Underage drinking is bad in many ways. Teens are simultaneously undergoing physical changes, peer pressure, and new situations and the consumption of it will only lead to many problems. These vulnerability mainly happens because teenagers at age of 16 are still immature and don’t know how to say no. Furthermore, it will lead to car accidents, drinking and driving is a main concern nowadays since the DWI made an investigation and revealed that in the year 2011 428 people died because of drinking and driving and that 26 percent of drunken driving deaths in 2011 were in the 16-20 age group. When teens drink at a younger age they are more likely to drink to get drunk instead of drinking about one or two to be social. This is a main reason why teens shouldn’t drink until they are 21.
Another reason why underage drinking shouldn’t be allowed is because it leads to so many health related problems. It's no secret that alcohol consumption can cause major health problems, including cirrhosis of the liver and injuries sustained in automobile accidents. But these are not the only problems that bring alcoholic substances; researchers have linked alcohol consumption to more than 60 diseases. "Alcohol does all kinds of things in the body, and we're not fully aware of all its effects," says James C. Garbutt, MD, professor of psychiatry at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Medicine and a researcher at the university's Bowles Center for Alcohol Studies. "It's a pretty complicated little molecule." Conditions like anemia and nerve damage can be developed throughout the years. This first disease is caused because the number of oxygen-carrying red blood cells abnormally lowers and nerve damage because alcohol is toxic to nerve cells and produces a painful pins-and-needles feeling or numbness in the extremities as well as muscle weakness.
