Historic Evolution of the English language
Welcome everyone were here all gather here to see a small play about the evolutions of the language and how it was mix with other languages, so now let’s began with our journey with the evolution of the language first we have we have a country call Anatolia now days know as turkey here is where we have the origins of the European languages were origin. Here we have the Germanic language that was divided in three different languages. The first one is the west Germanic , the north Germanic and the south Germanic ,were we have a low level of language and last but not least the high Germanic language and the gothic we also have the romance language that were stem from the Latin and we have Spanish, portugues,Italian,French and Catalan.
During this period we have the Celts in 55b.c they were living in Britain peacefully without any invasion until Julio Cesar arrived to Britain and conquered their lands, so the Celts had to leave to Ireland, but around in 410 in Rome Julio cedars country was falling apart and they were losing their lands, he and his man went back to Rome and left Britain for good on 410d.c. during the romans were departing to Rome. the Celts went back to brain on that same year and on 450d.c some tribes came by such as the judges ,the Saxons ,the Anglos and the Frisians that’s why they are call Anglo Saxons because they were all departing to Britain and forming all just one.
On 1042 England was overrun by northern Europe innovators waves and on that same year the same thing was happening in France. The Northman later shortened to Normans that came down Scandinavia and northern German and conquered a substantial part of France. The Northman’s intermarried with the French and a language was developed that is known as the Norman French which replaced the Germanic language originally spoken by the Northman.
In England after the Danish cantus two sons failed as rulers.
Edward had grown in north Mandy and he introduced many Norman customs into England. Many of the Anglo-Saxons did not like this Norman emphasis and in 1066 Edward died and the Anglo-Saxons managed to put Harold Anti-Norman on the throne.
The duke of Normandy named William cousin of Edward thought that he should be king of England. Probably King Edward make him such a promise in that time Harold was a captive in Normandy he had sworn allegiance to duke Williams. With the blessing of the pope and other European leaders. William took and army across the channel and on oct 14 1066 at the famous battle of Hastings he defeated Harold’s army and Harold was killed. After two months of pillaging in southeastern England William now call the conqueror was crowned king.
William took over the lands of the Anglo Saxons and the nobles who had opposed him and turns them over to the Norman followers. During Williams kingdom the important position were held by Normans and the Anglo Saxons were often little more than servants or serfs. Norman merchants took over most of the businesses in London and other large towns.
Sir Walter Scott who wrote Ivanhoe points out that the Norman French words were used to refer to things of higher status than English words were.
Sir Scott takes his guest ceric the Saxon guest and tells them to speak his language so that he could express himself next we have the second cedric stating that some of the higher raking Anglo Saxon knew both English and Norman French and went a ceric merman visitor responds that he speaks French but he also understand English the Anglos understand that he learning went on in both diresctions.the English survived because the Anglo Saxons outnumbered the Normans. The Anglos had the power but the Anglo Saxons had more people. If the Norman Conquest had not occurred the English we speak now like the pronunciation in their endings and the way we put sentences.
