The story of Atlantis arises from the writings of Platon, Greek philosopher. In 427 B. C., wrote his "Dialogues of Plato," these dialogues by Plato in Critias and Timaeus, they say that this story was told by the Greek wise Solon, who in turn received it from an Egyptian priest. In these writings Plato relates the description of a great continent that had a wonderful civilization, he said, had ever existed in "a distant point of the Atlantic Ocean" opposite the Pillars of Hercules, in the year 900 B. C., and he said that Atlantis had sunk into the sea at the end of a day and a night, the victim of a great cataclysm. These writings created the legend of the lost continent of Atlantis. It’s necessary to make an explanation on this period of time, and is that Salon could have misinterpreted the Egyptian symbol for 100 and 1000, that is, that the Atlantis would have existed in 9000 years B.C. Which coincides with the ice age or in 900 years B.C. This would locate the Atlantis in the Bronze Age in which possessed the necessary tools to obtain the development that is described in history about this civilization.
The human cravings for crossing borders and discover things impossible, and the faith that we have always put that superior beings and societies is above ours has shipped throughout history in search of our own limits. Yet for centuries has been studied in every way possible its exact location, and the starting point has always been the Pillars of Hercules. These are in the Strait of Gibraltar, so it made sense to determine that a little beyond the columns, could be in the vicinity of the Canary Islands. For years the theory has been best known. However, there are other places that have been studied: Central Atlantic. Along the Atlantic seabed north and south, lies a vast column, from Iceland to the island of Tristan da Cunha. Some suggest that the higher parts of this mountain range, especially around the arch of the Azores, were once above sea level, forming the land of Atlantis. North America. Theories about Atlantis have involved great characters of history. Names like Christopher Columbus ever have joined the cause to find out his whereabouts. Of his stories were obtained or attempted to apply some theories that are believed to see in that continent some of the traces of ancient Atlantis. Even the writer Francis Bacon, in his book "The New Atlantis" equated with the land mentioned by Plato. However, this theory has also been rejected in this case ethnic and cultural, as the evidence we have of ancient American societies are not
