All experiment data are located in directories named by experiment number (e.g. experiment 104 is in the directory “\experiment 104”). Each directory contains an “about.txt” file documenting briefly the experiment title and parameter settings, and an Excel file with data from each of 10 runs. Throughout these data files, averages across the 10-runs are presented along with standard deviations (rather than the standard errors provided in the paper—see Table 1 below for a conversion formula). Each row in the data file represents summary statistics for a particular run, and columns are as follows:
Column A: run number (out of 10 total for the experiment)
Column B: the random seed used for the run
Column C: the length of the run (in iterations)
Column D: cumulative statistic for the % of behavior that is cooperation with same type
Column E: cumulative statistic for the % of behavior that is defection with different type
Column F: cumulative statistic for the % of behavior that is “consistent with
ethnocentrism” (i.e. either cooperation with own type or defection with other
types)
Column G: cumulative statistic for the % of interactions that occur between like-type
agents
Column H: cumulative statistic for the % of observed behaviors that are cooperative
Column I: last100 statistic for the same measure as in column D
Column J: last100 statistic for the same measure as in column E
Column K: last100 statistic for the same measure as in column F
Column L: last100 statistic for the same measure as in column G
Column M: last100 statistic for the same measure as in column H
Column N: average count of “CC” genotypes (pure cooperators) in the population during
the last 100 iterations (percentage of total calculated in averages at bottom of
column)
Column O: average count of “CD” genotypes (ethnocentrics who cooperate only with
their own type) in the population during the last 100 iterations (percentage of
total calculated in averages at bottom of column)
Column P: average count of “DC” genotypes (cosmopolitans who cooperate only with
different types) in the population during the last 100 iterations (percentage of
total calculated in averages at bottom of column)
Column Q: average count of “DD” genotypes (pure defectors) in the population during
the last 100 iterations (percentage of total calculated in averages at bottom of
column)
All cumulative statistics represent population averages across an entire run. All “last100” statistics represent population averages across the last 100 iterations of a run.
The listing of experiments is presented in two ways. In section one, experiments are identified in order of numerical sequence. In section two, the tables from the paper are reproduced, with the corresponding experiment number added to each line.
