What is racism?

Racism is a sense of displeasure with the "racial sense" of an ethnic group, which causes discrimination against other ethnic groups. It has been present for all our history

Important people

I will talk about important people who have fought against the racism:

Martin Luther King:

He was an American pastor of the Baptist Church and activist who developed a crucial role in the United States for civil rights for African-Americans and participated in several protests against the Vietnam War and poverty. He ended with racial discrimination without violence, he was given the Nobel Peace Prize in 1964. Four years later he was killed in Memphis.

Nelson Mandela:

He was a lawyer. He was the first black representative to head the Executive Branch, and the first to be elected by universal suffrage in his country. His government devoted himself to resolve poverty and social inequality. He died in 2013 from problems with the respiratory system

Racism groups

Ku klux klan

Ku Klux Klan is an extremist group in the United States, created in the 19th century, after the Civil War, and defending white-race supremacy, racism, xenophobia, anti-Semitism, homophobia, anti-Anti-Catholicism and anti-communism. These organizations have often resorted to terrorism, violence and movements such as the burning of crosses to oppress their victims.

Nazis

When Hitler and the Nazis came to power, they thought the Aryan race was predominant to the rest. These beliefs became the ideology of government and they showed on posters, on radio, in movies, classrooms and newspapers. The Nazis began to implement their ideology with the support of German scientists. They Built concentration camps where they mostly locked up Jews. They did forced works and then they were exterminated. The most serious movement is the Holocaust when more than 6 millions Jews died.

Racism today

Today, there is a lot of racism and it's a very serious problem.

It can be seen in politics and society. In 2019 in Spain there have been 4000 assaults and 88 racist murders. In the media doesn't give importance to this type of themes. Other problems are extreme parties who are more populars. For example, in the United States there is a xenophobic, sexist, and homofhobic president.
