Greenpeace is an international , economically and politically independent environmental organization that uses non-violence and confrontation to expose and find solutions to global environmental problems.
Greenpeace was founded in Vancouver , Canada in 1973 when a group of activists taking nonviolent direct action against nuclear weapons testing in Amchitka U.S. , a volcanic island in the Aleutian Islands west of Alaska.
In Argentina , Greenpeace office was created in 1987 . Greenpeace is headquartered in Amsterdam and has over 40 offices worldwide .
In Argentina , there is an office in the City of Buenos Aires with a staff of over 40 people divided into different areas: Executive Management , Campaigns Unit , Policy Unit , Public Mobilization , Communication, Fundraising , Logistics and Administration.
To maintain its independence , Greenpeace does not accept any contributions from companies , governments or political parties and are only funded through the contribution of 3 million individuals worldwide and 80,000 in Argentina .
Our accounting records are audited annually and publish an annual presentation of our expenses to ensure the transparent use of funds that partners bring .
At Greenpeace we assume political position other than the protection of the environment .
Since its founding in 1971 , Greenpeace maintains complete independence from any political affiliation or economic interest.
