The official residence of Los Pinos , colloquially referred to as Los Pinos is the home of the President of the United Mexican States. Currently in her lie Enrique Peña Nieto and the first lady Angelica Rivera.

Construction
In January 1853 Dr. Don José Pablo Martinez del Rio , patriarch of one of the wealthiest families in the country in the nineteenth century and the first half of the twentieth century , bought part of the land and waters of the area known as Mill Mr. Rey Don José Rincón Gallardo, why paid a total of two thousand three hundred thirty-five pesos and six reals . The new owner built a ranch in these areas which he called "The Ant " because it was the smallest of its properties , which over the years was converted into a residence. At the site there were two houses , stables, chapel and other services described and a pond where there were different species of fish and swans . "
English chalet type house, overlooking the grounds of the ranch was built by Ant Dr. Martinez del Rio in the late nineteenth century , had gabled roofs with turrets on the sides. "One of the most beautiful details that had building , located in the middle of lush forest and the highest part of the land next to a small square , was the terrace which was called" The Varanda "and was naturally the outdoors. "
The first president that dwelt
The presidency of Lázaro Cárdenas began on December 1, 1934 . The same day, after the ceremony of inauguration, said he did not want to live in the Castle of Chapultepec , for it seemed very flashy and wished that all Mexicans could visit , so he chose to live the ranch " La Hormiga " because he was in the forest of Chapultepec and he liked to get in touch with nature. The name " La Hormiga " did not seem right for the president's house so it changed to " Los Pinos " in memory of the name of the orchard fell in love with his wife Mrs. Amalia Solórzano in Tacámbaro , Michoacán .
Marriage Cárdenas came to live in March 1935 and to suit the needs of the President and his family made a number of reforms to the house and nearby buildings .
It becomes official residence
When Manuel Ávila Camacho became the nation's president , decided to move to Los Pinos , despite popular discontent , and that much of the public believed that the right place for the president was the Castle of Chapultepec , to which refused and he and his wife moved to Los Pinos in December 1941 .
In the English style house (now home " Lazaro Cardenas "), also lived his successor Manuel Ávila Camacho and Miguel Aleman , being the latter who took the decision to build a larger and functional home, which ultimately serve as offices for various leaders .
During their governments presidents Miguel de la Madrid, Carlos Salinas de Gortari and Ernesto Zedillo Ponce de León, dispatched his affairs in that residence. In the government of Vicente Fox , House Lázaro Cárdenas was used by Mrs. Marta Sahagun as their offices.
