A social network is a way of representing social structure , assigning a graph, if two elements of the set of actors ( such as individuals or organizations) are related according to some criteria ( professional relationship , friendship , kinship, etc. . ) Then build a line connecting the nodes representing those elements. The connection type representable in a social network is a dyadic relationship or interpersonal bond , which can be interpreted as relations of friendship, kinship , labor , among others.

Multidisciplinary research has shown that social networks are useful representations at many levels , from family relationships to relationships statewide organizations (we speak in this case of political networks ) , play a critical role in determining the agenda policy and the extent to which individuals or organizations achieve their goals or are influenced .

Social network analysis examines this social structure using graph theory and identifying the entities as " nodes" or " vertices " and relationships as " links" or " edges " . The resulting graph structure is often very complex. As stated , in its simplest form , a social network is a map of all relevant ties between all nodes studied. We speak in this case of networks' central partner "or " complete " . Another option is to identify the network that surrounds a person ( in different social contexts in which they interact ), in this case we speak of " personal network " .

The social network can also be used to measure social capital (ie , the value that an individual gets accessible resources through their social network ) . These concepts is often in a diagram where the nodes are points and loops , lines .

Social network also often refer to Internet platforms . Internet social networks whose purpose is to facilitate communication and other social issues on the website .
