What material is the cello made of?

The soundboard of the cellos is designed with a spruce wood top and maple wood is used for the rest, but other types of wood are also used, such as beech, beech, willow or cedar. The bridge is made of maple. Low-quality cellos are made of laminates, and cellos have already been built in composite materials, such as carbon fiber. The neck and the head are usually also made of some type of wood mentioned above, generally very grained maple for those fine ones. The pegs, fingerboard, and tailpiece are all made of ebony, although more and more of some sort of stained wood or plastic is now being made, especially the tailpiece. The tensors or tuners found in the tailpiece are generally made of steel, as is the pike, although the latter in some cases are made of carbon fiber, and even some pikes are still made of wood.

The arc

The cello is generally played with a bow, which is made up of a wooden stick on which bristles made from horsehair or acrylic imitations are stretched. The bow is made up of a head, a rod, and bristles.

From top to bottom, three nuts: violin, viola and cello respectively.

The head is where the nut is located (normally they have been made from a piece of ebony, with mother-of-pearl decorations to hold the bristles) and the screw, which serves to regulate the degree of tension of the bristles. The shaft is normally a pernambuco wood shaft, although it has been replaced by carbon fiber, with one end called the tip, and the other the heel (where the head is).

The bristles are usually about 250 (which have been previously selected) although their number may vary. They normally belong to male horses, because their manes are stronger and cleaner.
