Syrian refugees should be accepted in any country
War has been a main problem during the civilization history and Syria is the most relevant issue nowadays. The war began around 2011 with protests, repression and human rights abuses which finally ended with the Syrian civil war. This exposed an important consequence to Syrians inhabitants affecting directly residents and children. This deathly situation cannot have importance to other countries because it is not significant to them, especially in terms of economy, population growth, and cultural differences. But even though other countries are not responsible for consequences of the war, international organizations should persuade countries to receive refugees and to support them in terms of health care, food and jobs.
Syrian civil war started in the early springs of 2011 with international interventions that took place in Syria. This unrest generated conflicts around Arab Spring protest against the President Bashar al-Assad’s government. In consequence several innocent citizens that were not involved in the principal conflict between Alawite-dominated government forces, militias and Shia groups against Sunni-dominated rebel group, left the country raising the number of refugees around the world. According to information published on MercyCorps website (2016) “There are more than 4.7 million Syrian refugees in neighboring countries. Nearly 1 million half applied for asylum in the safety of Europe. More than 13.5 million people are still in need of assistance inside Syria.” This demonstrates that every family in Syria needs an opportunity of acceptance and asylum in another country because they are stuck in.
Firstly, countries such as United States of America oppose to receive refugees, according to a report published on CNN website (2016) only 7 of 50 states willing to accept refugees; 31 states are totally opposed to receive them, and 12 states are not committed to the situation. This is all related to the safety of citizens, because precedents support the idea that Syrians are dangerous directly linked to terrorist attacks in Paris. Even though this country receive Syrian immigrants, it is explicit the restriction to access to USA. Donald Trump, republican candidate, describes the situations as “insane” considering the precedents that have refugees and infiltrate terrorist following the example in Paris (CNN website report). Those states that accept refugees are conscious that the war has involved extremist and part of the government; that not reflect the pacifist aspects of people of Middle Eastern.
Another important aspect about the situation of refugees is related to several countries bordering Syria. In these terms, those countries such as Turkey and Lebanon receive more than 3.5 million Syrian refugees, but Turkish government broke the international law returning refugees to Syria. According to a report published on Amnesty International website (2016), it is important to evidence facts that support this idea. A relevant event happened with refugees bordering the limit of Turkey. Three children and an eight-month pregnant woman were forced to return to Syria. These people that are unregistered in refugees’ camps are living this situation without any paper to prove their condition. These acts, according to UNHCR (2016) for those countries that receive refugees, are forbidden to return them. It is a violation of the law that involved these cases; they cannot expel or return refugees.
A refugee in definition is a person who left the country and feels fear of being persecuted for reasons such as identity, origins and a different point of view. According to information published on UNHCR website (2016) a refugee, as a civilian, has basic human rights; it is guarantee from the government that these rights are achieved. This task has to be supervised carefully, to ensure that refugees are safe, protected and provided of asylum. Besides, refugees have duties to accomplish to the country that receives them respecting the laws and regulations.
The laws that protect refugees argue that countries that receive them have an obligation in order to provide shelters, basic supplies, health care, legal assistance and education, but is it not entirely true, because according to information published on Amnesty International website (2016) it is specify that countries that receive refugees, especially those that limit with Syria, are not complying the law related to the human rights of refugees.
Next in importance to refugee’s human rights are medical attention and food supplies. It is well-known that health care and food supplies are basic human rights, but it is not considered as an important duty. During the war in Syria most of the people that fled their homes are living in neighboring countries in overcrowd conditions, especially with terrible health circumstances. Several organizations are contributing to this situation providing food supplies and medical assistance, but these resources that have been distribute between refugees and people that still being in Syria it is not enough. In accordance with World Food Programme website (2016) food supplies have been distributed for almost 1.4 million of refugees and 4 million Syrians per month. This international emergency demonstrates that organizations need to enforce their assistance calling people to donate and take conscious about it, but even though these organizations are contributing to those countries that receive refugees, those governments cannot afford this situation.
This crisis has been intensified through the years, because the number of refugees has increased enormously. Medical assistance in Syria is extremely limited and severely restricted. In fact, in Lebanon, Jordan and Iraq the situation is absolutely unfavorable because, as previously said, the growing number of Syrian refugees has been affected economically neighboring countries. Refugees cannot afford medical treatments because they are not capable to sustain for themselves. Precarious conditions forced people to understand how difficult is to live in refugee’s camps, because it is an overcrowd place, waiting long hours to receive medical attention, observing how sick their children are, and suffering the most inhuman circumstances.
