Description of students | This lesson plan concerns the second year of the second cycle of Primary Education that is to say, the Year 4, children aged between 9 and 10. Students at this level already have some previous knowledge of English since they have been taught this subject since Infant Education. This group consists of 21 students; twelve boys and 9 girls. Although nobody in my class need specific curricular adaptation, each student has their particular individualities and all of them must be attended. About the number of immigrants, there are two pupils from Ecuador that came to the school three and four years ago, so they are very well integrated in the group.
Anticipated problems | These students are not motivated. Moreover, they hardly take part in class activities. They do not know when the World Peace Day is hold and what it involves. If students find that difficulty, we will solve it with different activities in the classroom. Some students may have difficulties with the treatment of the information.
Solutions | Making the classes more dynamic for them, and involve them in different activities that we do. Using children´s interests to catch their attention. Making them learn in an interesting way, using the ICT in the English classroom. We need to offer them English as a meaningful learning. The target language will be the medium of communication in the classroom. It will be used as the normal medium for classroom management and instruction. Classroom activities will maximise opportunities for learners to use the target language in a communicative way for meaningful activities. There will be an emphasis on meaning rather than form. In order to help students with the target language, Real- life situations and opportunity for real communication must be provided. Meaningful language is always more easily retained by learners. Activities will be varied, communicative and motivating, always in coherence with the formulated aims. In order to develop the student´s communicative competence, activities will be focused on performing in communicative contexts, that is to say, students will be. Thus, to develop students´ ability to communicative, we will create communicative contexts. At the same time, activities will be clear so that students can understand them easily as well as suitable, having into account the students´ foreign language level, the contents to be learnt and the time. By the end of the lesson students will be able to work in groups and treat the information. This lesson will cover the four basic skills of a language lesson: reading, listening, writing and speaking. This class has recently been studying Gandhi, so we will use it to introduce students to the topic of the peace in the classroom.
