Top 10 causes of stress

Stress is a common thing nowadays, it keeps us moving or paralyzed. Stress is described according to the Stress Management Society as “a physical response. When stressed, the body thinks it is under attack and switches to ‘fight or flight’ mode, releasing a complex mix of hormones and chemicals such as adrenaline, cortisol and norepinephrine to prepare the body for physical action. This causes a number of reactions, from blood being diverted to muscles to shutting down unnecessary bodily functions such as digestion”. People live under constant stress every day. We try to avoid stress situations but it is practically impossible because of all the compromises, preoccupations, social issues and economic issues we have on a daily basis.

Few of the principal causes of stress start with a childhood trauma that accompany us through life, the death of a loved one that cause an impact in our lives, the divorce of our parents, our grandparents or our own, our critical finances, the hard job to get a job on the campus we specialize and that pays us what we really deserve to be paid. Our health issues or the health of a loved one, our relationship with our couple or family, the hard work of getting pregnant or getting pregnant at an early age, the illness of a child or being in a dangerous situation like an accident or a fire. We live under constant stress and we made it through every day. How life would be without stress?

We try to live every day thinking is going to be a great day but sometimes people start their day thinking that is going to be a tough day every day. A person who had a trauma on his/her childhood can live with stress. Everyday could be a battle with security, depression and anxiety. Some childhood traumas can be a sexual abuse, physical abuse or something a little more simple like parent fights. If a childhood trauma is not found in an early age, as an adult the person can struggle creating bonds with others. A person can live with the preoccupation that the same things are going to happen to them in their adulthood. They can live trying to make amends and not repeating the same mistakes they saw in their childhood but without the guidance of a counselor or a good friend they can make the same mistakes or make them worse. A person who was abused needs help and if they don’t get it they will be haunted by that abuse and they will not have the same ability to be related to other people. They might not know It but they will be dealing with stress.

A death of a loved one who left really early or who just was too close or important to us can make a big impact in our lives. If we lose someone special we lose security and a purpose because we may think we cannot survive without this person (parent, sibling, grandparent or couple). We can feel that this person left a big whole, a bigger responsibility than the one we had taking care of our other loved ones, have more responsibilities that can lead to much stressful situations that we had. This must lead to more stress than grief in some situations. When we lose a family member we may have to assume financial responsibilities of their debts and it may be a worse feeling when they have small children who you have to take care now on your own. The feeling of being alone may come to accompany the person for a long time until they can restart their life again.

A divorce is another principal cause of stress because you are leaving a person who you may still be in love with if it is your couple. Maybe is the divorce of your parents and it may affect you in other ways like thinking they are going to stop loving you. It may be a worse situation for a minor because the feelings of abandonment can invade his/her thoughts. The thought of being unloved or being the reason of the divorce may come to the child.

To the adult, the financial situation may cause stress because now the person may have to pay more or pay for things they didn’t have to pay in the first place. It may be a difficult time to express feelings, have company, having help from your ex couple or even other family members. All the lawyers, court dates and the fear it becomes to a person can cause stress even thou you know the purpose of the appointment and that you did nothing wrong. The time the person may have to leave work early to make it in time for appointments may lead to a lot of stress.

If a person is leading with a divorce, that person is going to struggle with finances for a period of time. This may be because that person now has to pay the mortgage of the house, children school, grocery, bills and that person doesn’t have a job that pays that well. The cost of living is higher every day, having private health insurance can be painful and even a luxury because of the high costs of the insurance. Getting sick could be more painful because the medication prices are on the roof. The taxes we have to pay, the bills and the poor check we can receive every two weeks may cause big amounts of stress and preoccupation. Nowadays, people recur to credit cards to survive on a daily basis because if they don’t have it they can’t have almost anything. Credit cards make life so much easier but it’s never great when we have to pay the great amount of money we owe to them. Every invoice we receive in the mail causes stress.

Stress can be caused also because we have a job that doesn’t pay us what we need or because we don’t have a job at all. This period of time we live in is known for being the time with the most unemployment rate ever. If a person who receives federal help to survive finds a job they stop receiving that help and have to pay a lot of money, it is like repaying the government what they gave to you. Some people prefer to don’t work just because they have more money in their pockets than with a job. If a person has a job that has a lot of responsibilities may lead to stress. Companies now tend to give a three-person job just to one person, giving this one-person stress they don’t really need and the worse of it is that the salary doesn’t compensates the three-person job in one. These tendencies are the ones that may direct a person to leave the country and search for a better job in some other place or have few jobs that pay better. Some people do this; they get two or three jobs to pay for all their bills. This people private themselves of the little things we can have in life like enjoying a cup of coffee with a friend, seeing a child starting to walk, say his/her first words, seeing a sunset of feeling the change of the climate when it is almost winter time. If a person can’t see these things it means that person is living in a lot of pressure and stress.
