Academic Resources
Academic resources are very important and help students succeed academically. Some of these academic resources are writing centers, computer labs, and libraries. People who work in these places can help students to unravel any problem with their homework, projects, paragraphs and essays. For example, the Writing Center is very important because its tutors help students brainstorm, rectify grammatical errors, refine organization and develop the clarity of a paragraph. Some students are receptive to any kind of comments from tutors, and they do well on their paragraphs. Also students can have successive appointments so that they can do even better on their writing assignments. A second academic resource is the computer labs. Everyone needs a computer to do or transcribe homework, and it is very useful for students. This kind of resource is very common in schools, and also in cities, so students can easily access computers. A third academic resource is a library. Most schools and colleges have one because it is necessary to have an academic resource like this one. Students can go to the library to do homework or get some information about a book. Going to the library has many benefits. For example, the library not only has every kind of book, but it also has computers, tutors, dictionaries, magazines, CD’s and movies. To conclude, every type of academic resources is very helpful to succeed academically, but the most important thing about them is that they are very easy to access because they are both on campus and in the community. They are everywhere.
English- Only Driver’s Tests
In the United States, the driver’s test is offered in other 14 languages, but there is a proposal in Atlanta Georgia to change this law which allows people who do not read English to take the diver’s test in their language. English-only driver’s test will be a barrier for people who do not understand English. Driver’s tests should be offered not only in English, but also in other languages as well for two reasons. One of the reasons is because people will probably fail the driver’s test if it is not offered in their native language. They are going to fail the test because they may not understand very well the questions. For example, if they do not know English, they will guess all the answers of the test, and it may cause the failure of their driver’s test. If they fail the test, they cannot get the driver’s license, and it will probably lead to an increased number of unlicensed drivers on the road. People may drive without a license and without insurance. For instance, when my friend Sahar came to the United States for second time she did not know very well English, and she took the diver’s test in English. She did not pass the test, and after her second time, she decided to take the driver’s test in Arabic.
