Lineboring Procedure for Large Bores.

Preparation of tooling. Ensure the following are taken to the job. Ensure all tooling is operational & accurate.

1. Bars (correct length).

2. Inside & Outside Micrometer, Verniers, Inside & Outside callipers, Dial Indicators. (Correct for size of bore & have calibration certificate).

3. Machine tools (ceramic & steel).

4. Cutting fluid.

5. Quality documents. (TO BE CREATED)

6. Lathe.

7. I.D. Welder.

8. Generator.

9. Tent.

10. Nitrogen.

Things to do prior to installation of lineboring tooling, bar, cones, bearing mounts, I.D. welder, etc.

1. Check for factory specifications of bore. Record on Q.D.

2. Check for factory specifications of bush (O.D. & I.D.), (uninstalled & installed). Record on Q.D.

3. Check for factory specifications of pin. (O.D.) Record on Q.D.

4. Determine outside diameter of pin to inside of installed bush diameter tolerance. (Running tolerance). Record on Q.D.

5. Measure bore with inside micrometer along several points in several directions. Record on Q.D.

6. Measure pin to be installed along several points in several directions. Record on Q.D.

Installation of machine tooling.

1. Ensure bearing mounts are clean & have flat surfaces. Large welds to be used. Avoid using scrap material such as bolts, old machine tools & other scrap material.

2. Ensure cones have flat edges.

3. Ensure cones do not damage bushes if skimming a bush.

4. Ensure bar is straight & free of burrs that will cause misalignment in the bearings & chuck.

5. Ensure power source (generator/welder) is in good condition & has a full fuel tank.

6. Determine factory reference marks.

7. Ensure faces & shoulders are as per factory specifications. (Free of burrs, flat & even)

8. Install bar.

9. Install cones to bar.

10. Install bearing mounts to bar.

11. Remove cones.

12. Centre bar in bores.

13. Ensure bar is stable & cannot move. If a bar longer than 3m is required, a centre support bearing should be used to prevent bar deflection.

14. Checks bores for alignment with dial indicator & perform final alignment checks.

Premachining.

1. Determine depth of cut & & number of cuts required. Record on Q.D.

2. Set up machine tool & begin cutting.

3. Machine into bore 25mm & stop.

4. Measure cut. Correct if required.

5. Perform cut of full length of bore, checking cut depth frequently with inside callipers & outside micrometer.

6. Repeat steps 1-6 on opposing bore.

I.D. Welding.

1. Ensure
