Exercise 1

Rewrite these sentences using contraction. If a contractions is not possible, do not rewrite the sentence.

Examples: They are at school. They're at school .

The church is big. It is big .

1. I am happy. I'm happy .

2. We are at home. We're at home .

3. School is interesting. It's interesting .

4. English is easy.___________________________

5. He is tired. He's tired .

6. It is a nice day today. It's a nice day today .

7. My name is Junko. My name's Yunko .

8. My house is big.__________________________

9. You are nice. You're nice .

10. She is my sister. She's my sister .

Exercise 2

Fill in the blanks with the correct form to be. Make a contraction whenever possible. Not every sentence can have a contraction.

Example: Jackie 's busy today. The girls are on vacation.

1. George and Michael are brothers. They live in Florida.

2. Florida 's a warm state in the United States. It 's in the South.

3. Their house is near the beach. It 's a big house with a swimming pool.

4. George and his father 're tall. Michael 's not so tall.

5. Maurice is their father's name. He 's a write.

6. This is their dog, Pooch. Pooch is very small.

7. Pooch is a good swimmer. She 's very small.

8. Maurice is a good swimmer too.

9. Pooch and Maurice are in the pool now.

10. Michael and Jackie 's in the kitchen.
