This I believe
I believe in dreams. Not the kind of dreams you have when you sleep, though I believe in that too, but the dream of what you aspire to be. When I was a child, like many others, I started out with a desire to become many things: a doctor, a judge, and a mother. I was told by my mom when I was little to follow my dream, or I would spend the rest of my life working for someone who followed their dream. As I grew older, I began to see the differences in my dreams and the dreams of those around me. They appeared to be more realistic and intense. Never did I realize that my future would be built off of the foundation of my dreams; and never did I realize why it was so important to follow them.
When I was 4 years old, I began to sing in the church. Singing was my favorite thing to do. When I turned 12, I decided to sign myself up for a singing competition, and I was very nervous. I competed with other 42 other people, and all of them had amazing voices. Some of them made me feel that I wasn’t good enough for it, but I kept my head up, and I decided to go forward with the competition. At the end, they started to announce the champions, and as they announced the third and second place and my name wasn’t there, I decided to walk away. Shortly after, I heard them calling my name. I had won the battle. After that day, I decided to believe more in myself. Later down the road, I won 3 more competitions, all of them in first place. Because I followed my dreams, I now have something to share with others. But that wasn’t my only dream.
I also dream on becoming a Nurse Practitioner one day. On March 28, 2010, my brother passed way from a brain tumor. I felt like half of me was gone. I told myself that one day, I would take care of people and make them smile as much as my brother’s friends made him smile. He was well taken care of, and I will be always thankful for that. For this reason, I dream of been a Nurse Practitioner.
I know that these stories will give hope, inspiration, and a meaning to live to those around me. I really enjoy inspiring the youth around me. Following my dreams gives me something to share and inspire them with. Leading by example, and showing them that anything is possible when you put your mind to it, has been a great way to motivate those around me. Hearing success stories from those who have looked up to me has truly been a humbling experience, and one that I have been blessed to have.
Not only has chasing my dreams given me something to share, but it has allowed me to develop self-confidence; which has ultimately been the source of success in life. I can’t always say that I have had the motivation and determination to be all that I can be, but as I began to grow I realized that I am who I am for a reason, and I have been prepared with the understanding and support to be the best that I can be and inspire others to do the
