ESSAY
Ray Douglas Bradbury was born on August 22, 1920, in Waukegan, Illinois. He was an American fantasy and horror author who rejected being categorized as a science fiction author, claiming that his work was based on the fantastical and unreal. His best known novel is Fahrenheit 451, a dystopian study of future American society in which critical thought is outlawed.
There is no specific time and place but Bradbury’s book took place in the future, in a futuristic society because Bradbury described himself as a preventor of futures, he did not believe that book burning was an inevitable part of our future so he wanted to warn against it.
The main character of the novel is Guy Montag, Guy is a fireman who us much respected by his superiors and is in line for a promotion but he was hired to burn forbidden books. He doesn't question what he does or why he does it until he meets Clarisse his seventeen-year-old new neighbor, he meet Clarisse McClellan hose free-thinking ideals and liberating spirit cause him to question his way to live and his own perceived happiness. He quickly forms unusually strong attachments with anyone who seems receptive to true friendship. His biggest regret in life is not having a better relationship with his wife. Despite everything he is determined to break free from the oppression of ignorance.
I find that the plot in Bradbury’s book starts when Montag experiences a series of disturbing events. First, his wife, Mildred, attempts suicide by swallowing a bottle of sleeping pills.
A few days later, he hears that Clarisse has been killed by a speeding car; Clarisse makes him realize he is s not as happy as he thought he was. Montag’s dissatisfaction with his life increases, and he begins to search for a solution in all the books that he has stolen. People think books are contradictory passages but he's trying to prove them wrong.
A few days later his boss, Captain Beatty gave the order to burn the books. Captain Beatty is a book burner with a vast knowledge of literature, someone who obviously cared passionately about books, for an ignorant society this represent the danger of books. For Beatty this represent a pleasure because he wanted the society to be lazy and only watch the television or listen to radio.
The regimes that the government established was a terrible mistake thinking about being happy without reading. But there is no choice, government put their own laws. People are prisoners of ignorance without even knowing because books gives you the ability to give your own opinion with freedom. But when you don't have them you're simply due to follow the rules. When reading is banned, human intelligence is limited.
For example:
When Captain Beatty told Montag to give him the books so he would not take him with the authorities (because if someone know about it, he could be murdered)
In my opinion for this book
