Explain the term Language transfer and then establish the difference between positive and negative transfer that affect both Spanish and English languages.
The Language transfer refers to the use of certain rules and customs of the native language of the person to the new language they are learning. To avoid making such mistakes; we must learn what we can use in our language for learning other. Since languages vary from one to another.
The difference between positive and negative transfer we can appreciate in the following paragraphs:
The positive transfer occurs when the grammar and the use in the structure of language is the same in both languages; and results in a correct way to speak the new language. The languages may be similar in words or grammar; but perhaps in the context is not the same so we must be careful.
Task 2. Write at least two examples of positive and negative transfer for both Spanish and English.
Positive: My house is big and beautiful. Mi casa es grande y bonita. In this case the English used the same grammatical form that in Spanish, we note that the noun, verb, and adjectives are in the same position in the two languages used.
In English and Spanish are words that are similar but its translation may be the same and also vary according to the context in which it is used. For example the word history in English is similarly to historia in Spanish which means the same; but, the same word is used to story and tale.
Negative: For example in Spanish adjectives goes after nouns and if these are various; the plural is added to both nouns and adjectives. In English these cases are not given because the adjective comes before the noun, the plural is added only to the nouns. Red cars; carros rojos.
In most English verbs do not change when performing conjugation. In most of verbs changes only the third person in which you add the s at the end; but in the Spanish to conjugate a verb, it changes from one to another.
I walk; you walk; he / she / it: walks; you walk; they walk.
Yo camino; tu caminas; el camina; nosotros caminamos; vosotros camináis; ellos caminan.
