Guerrero, Morelos, Oaxaca, Puebla, Veracruz, Chihuahua, Sinaloa, Guanajuato, Federal District and the State of Mexico are the entities with the highest number of feminicides, according to figures from the National Institute of Women (InMujeres) and of the National Citizen Observatory of Feminicides (OCNF).

11 municipalities of the State of Mexico: Ecatepec, Netzahualcoyotl, Valley of Chalco, Toluca, Tlalnepantla, Naucalpan, Chimalhuacán, Tultitlán, Ixtapaluca, Cuautitlán Izcalli and Chalco.

25 countries accounted for half of all women's crimes on the planet. 10 are in Latin America, citing Honduras (14 feminicides per 100,000 women, El Salvador (17 crimes per 100,000 women on average) and Mexico among the five countries in the world with the highest growth in homicide rates girls, and women. The list continues with Guatemala, Belize, Venezuela, Colombia, Brazil, Dominican Republic and Panama.

According to data from the study Latin America is the region of the world where women are at the highest risk of being killed. El Salvador has the highest rate of feminicide on a global scale with 17 crimes on average per 100,000 women, followed by Honduras with an index of 14 feminicides.

In third place is South Africa and fourth in another Latin American country, Guatemala, with a rate of just over ten feminicides. Belize, Venezuela, Colombia, Brazil, Dominican Republic and Panama are the other countries of the region along with Mexico that are among the 25 with more feminicides.

In the analysis by region, Central America, the Caribbean and South America are above - in that order - the rest in terms of the incidence of violent homicides of women. At the other extreme, Europe is the area with the lowest rate of feminicides, except for Russia, which is one of the top ten countries for women's crimes.´

Extension:

Feminicide: a global phenomenon?

Contrary to popular belief, feminicide is not a local problem for poor or backward countries. Unfortunately, this is a phenomenon that occurs all over the world. It seems that the murders of women for reasons of hatred can only occur within a macho culture, however, also in the First World there are feminicides and sexual violence against women, although the term is not settled in Europe.

The countries with the highest degree of inequalities are those that are most affected by the phenomenon which means that with more inequality women suffer the most and are prisoners of the hatred, resentment and frustrations generated by different sources.

The majority of Latin American countries don’t have an official system for the collection of data, which would enable them to understand how big the problem is and therefore search out the solutions. In many cases, the only sources available for research were newspapers which are rather incomplete. Furthermore, when there are official statistics, they are always lower than those reported by non-governmental organizations, which indicates a tendency on the part of governments to minimize the problem. The fact that the governments are minimizing the problem demonstrates the lack of interest and the general dehumanization of women under such governments.

Causality

According to Diana Russell, who is credited with popularizing the word "feminicide", some of the main motivations for these killings are anger, hatred, jealousy and the pursuit of pleasure.

Other variables that Russell considers relevant are misogyny, the sense of gender superiority and the conception of women as possession. These variables are transmitted culturally and favor the violence of men towards women.

The reasons that lead to feminicide are varied, but the most common are jealousy. Many male aggressors allege that jealousy leads them to commit the murder of their partners. Especially if it is an alleged infidelity.

The second cause that leads a man to perpetrate that crime is the decision of his partner to separate, which is not accepted by his aggressor. While rejection or denial of a relationship is also cause for attack. Drug and alcohol addiction are also counted as causing men's violence against women.

Another reason is machismo, in today's society there is still a strong rooting of the male population to believe that they are superior to women, which leads to discrimination and constant mistreatment, which regularly ends in femicide. "The aggressor is a person raised within a macho culture whose goal is to maintain control over a woman until she is subordination,"
