1. Was Hawthorne criticizing the Puritan view or illuminating it?

ANSWER: Hawthorne is criticizing the Puritan view .

2. What does The Scarlet Letter tell us about the differences between a

person’s real nature and how he or she is viewed by the community?

ANSWER: All of the subjects covered, such as guilt, damnation, love, and passion, are part of human nature and not part of the law, in my opinion.

conduct. Do you agree with this doctrine, or do you believe that men have free

ANSWER: I think all human being must have free will.

ANSWER: I disagree because I believe that people are simply humans, and that humans have the freedom to make errors, which I believe are just that, mistakes, not sins.

ANSWER: No, they wouldn't have been slain if it hadn't been for the Indians' attack, according to puritan religion; in fact, they wouldn't have been killed if it hadn't been for the Indians' attack.

Puritans. Was Hawthorne criticizing the Puritan view or adopting it?

ANSWER: Because we were discussing the horrific things the Puritans did to a human being, I believe Hawthorne's goal was to reveal the naked truth about the Puritans.

ANSWER: I suppose the statement was made by a puritan or a believer in the faith; no one has the authority to determine if what God says is correct or evil.

Literary Analysis

11. Describe the meaning of five symbols in the story.

ANSWER:

• The letter A represents her sin of adultery, and the color red represents Hester's immense passion and love.

• Hester and Dimmesdale are reminiscent of Adam and Eve since the two rebelled against God's authority.

• The prison door: the spiked, hefty wooden prison door is a metaphor of punishment. • The red bird: it's a symbol for Hester since it's red, but it's also difficult to manage, like Hester.

13. In the Bible, salvation is called a “pearl of great value.” Pearls are a

precious gift. Yet there is another dimension of Pearl shown in the story. What

else is Pearl to Hester Prynne? What else is Pearl to the community? What else

is Pearl to Dimmesdale?

ANSWER: Hester's pearl Is her daughter, the result of Hester's transgression (a bastard kid) for the community, and Dimmesdale's daughter as well.

14. Why did Chillingworth leave his property to Pearl? What does this tell you?

ANSWER: I believe he always intended her to be his daughter (as he has stated several times), because after all, she was a kid of love and passion.
