WWII.”

Young germans were influenced by the Nazis, but in such a way that they did not even notice it. They felt honored to be part on the Hitler Youth; there they were thought especially military stuff. Every young german has passed by a brain-wash, and it was not until the end of the Second World War that they recovered their power of thinking by themselves, and that is why the Hitler Youth started to feel less attractive.

The three main influences on young people –their families, their schools and youth movements- were controlled by the Nazis. This was how they got people to join the Hitler Youth, they made the kids so obsessed with the war up to the point that they were fanaticized. And then they encouraged them to invite their friends to join in. In 1936 it was almost not possible not to join the Hitler Youth.

So if the Hitler Youth was so honored and young people felt so proud to join it, then why did it lose so much popularity? As Germany lost the war, the germans noticed that they were not the best as Hitler made them believe, and that the Nazis were not the heroes they told everyone they were. Germany lost that urge for war, and this is why so much people have lost their loyalty on Hitler after the Second World War. So I think that that loss of loyalty to Hitler, was the recovery of loyalty to themselves.
