 Content summary

  • I really don’t know which is the major theme of the book because all the chapter has something important about Apple, each chapter is focused in something especific, in an especial aspect of Apple.

  • Best chapter.

For me the best chapter of the book, or the chapter that I liked most was the second chapter: Embrace Secrecy.

Every company has secrets of course. The difference is that in Apple everything is a secret

It explains in every detail the privacy of Apple.

How inside Apple everything is keep in secret, how each employee has permission to enter only some few rooms or especial rooms. For me this is something crazy but is a good key to keep the privacy or secrecy of the products, to keep their proyects safe. The main thing is to keep its products and practices hidden from competitors and the rest of the outside world.

Sometime interesting is when Apple recruits new people, they called it dummy positions because the new entrants don’t know in which building they will work or what they are going to do in the company becuase the roles of each employee are not explained until after they are inside or joined the company.

Employees can become mad keeping  a lot of secrets.

  • An example of good management decision is when Tim Cook decided to close the factories of Apple and start to produce all their products in factories in Asia. This is for me one of the best decision in Apple because this reduce a lot of cost in money and after that Cook started to do things, not in the creative way because he wasn’t good at it, but he was really good in supplu chain and logistic processes.
  • The characteristics that made succesfull to Apple was, in my opinion, the privacy and the Jobs ambition, the ambition of want to do more, to create more innovative things.

Something that could made struggle in Apple is when Jobs was fired of the company.

Another thing that I really liked was that in Apple is not important if an employee is a programmer, or any kind of engineer, each employee has to work in what they like to do, what they are excellent doing, this is something that helps in the performance of the employees because they really know what they are doing and they enjoys doing these things.

This book really can’t compare with other because Apple is a very special company, I can’t deal with the privacy inside Apple, because in the place I work everything is clear an only some few thing are kept in privacy.

I have a book about management that explains in detail some management techniques or concept but anything compare with this book.

I really liked the book because I like the Apple history and this book try to explain how Apple works and how is the company inside.

How the decision are made and that some products was created to fulfill needs of the board of directors, as an example we have the iphone, that was created because to the directors didn’t liked the smartphones of that time.

Second part – Evaluation of the book

Provide your overall opinion about the book.

This is an interesting book because Apple is one of the biggest companies not only in the USA, also in the world and I like the thing that we have the opportunity of read a book like this to try to understad how a company was built, how some decisions was made and who made these decision.

There has been a lot of directive people that has been working in Apple, I lost the count and I forget the names between all these people.

The first chapetes is all about Steve Jobs and the next chapters are about Apple.

Reading this book is like to see or being in Apple for sometime, it explains some ideas or processes in Apple, it explains how an employee of Apple is, how is its attitude and how is their behavior outside Apple.

There are many interesting things in the book that I never could stop explaining, since the little facts like that Jobs parked in the handicapped place and he removed the license plate of his car to avoid some charges or fines.
