Emotional Intelligence
Not everyone is an actor, emotions can be controlled; however, this ability is hard to master, Emotional intelligence is the ability to be aware and analyze our emotions or other people’s emotion in order to classify them logically and being to use this emotional information to control the situation, meaning that, controlling the thinking and behavior of a person. The emotional intelligence is divided in 3 models: Trait model, ability model, and the mixed model.
Konstantin Vasily Petrides was the developer of the trait model where he said that the there is a constellation of self-perception located at the lower levels of personality, which means that the emotional intelligence is when one person is being capable to perceive his emotional abilities. Moreover, this emotional intelligence (EI) also includes behavioral dispositions and self-perceive abilities and is only being measured by a self-report.
The ability model, developed by Peter Salovey anhd John Mayer, it emphasizes more in the individual ability to capture and process emotional information in order to cross in the social environment. This EI see emotions as powerful tools that provides information that could help one person to give meaning, purpose and sense in a social environment. Some abilities included in this Ei are: applying emotions, perceiving emotions, understanding emotions and managing emotions.
The mixed model was developed by Daniel Goleman, this model is basically the unification of the two models previously mentioned; however, Goleman emphasizes in his model five main Ei Constructs:
1. Self-awareness 2. Self-Regulation 3. Social Skill 4.Empathy 5. Motivation
Furthermore, Goleman mentions some set of emotional competencies within each construct. Competences that were not born like innate talent, in fact these capabilities are learned and must be practiced so they can be developed in order to master it and improve the results.
In Conclusion, emotional intelligence is very important to be learned and mastered it, because it can improve a lot of aspects in daily life problems and organizational problems.
