We will begin by defining “leadership”. “The ability to influence in other people to accomplish one target.” (Bonifaz Villar 2012). We can infer with this that a leader has to have to skill to persuade people to do their job so all together can accomplish one purpose.
To unite all the members inside the organism, a leader will require several skills that will help him to achieve this. The main skills are emotional intelligence, communication, motivation, coaching, proactivity. Giving the skills to discus, a leader has to be a model for the rest of his/her coworkers.
As we mentioned before, leadership is the ability to influence on people, but we have to establish that this has to be in a good sense. With this ability, a leader has to find the way to take advantage of the people and guide them to achieve the business/enterprise targets or including those people’s lives.
A leadership spirit will begin by desiring and wanting to change his/her surroundings. This means that we have to have a positive attitude to start influencing people. “If there is positive attitude, there’s going to be leadership” (Siliceo Aguilar). So we have to preserve an attitude that can motivate the people who follow us. The same author mentions that there’s no need to have a royal title or hierarchy to be a leader. As long as the leader has a good attitude, leadership will take place.
One key word is “charisma”. This aspect shouldn’t be missing in a leader. Let us define it: “Charisma is a set of skills and creativity to have the leader himself/herself grow as a person and have people grow too” (Bonifaz Villar 2012). Another concept we have to keep in mind it’s “influence”. Influence is what we are going to make happen when leadership takes place. This concept can be defined as a set of aspects or skills, such as: Respect, love, value, have faith, unite, etc. These words can be taken all together to form “influence”. So a good leader must empathize with our team work.
This means that we don’t have to lead with iron fist. We can give ourselves the opportunity to allow our team work to act and think by themselves, we cannot always be main character in the process of producing. Values will play an important role here. Why is this? Values are going to dictate our behavior towards our team. Everything is a chain that will help us to deal with our people in a good way.
There are several leadership theories that will help us to choose what kind of leader we want to become. Let us begin with the first one.
-Self-opinion leadership: This kind of leadership always gives orders, it’s inflexible, expects the accomplishment of one task. It is based on punishments and rewards.
This means the leader makes his/her will to be done, nothing else matters but rules and his/her only opinion.
