Introduction and justification
One of the systems more economical in the logistics transport today is the naval, because they
can move large loads in one trip for a very low price in compared with the others.
Globalization today requires a strong economy logistics bases in order to have sustainable
economic development; the project to adapt the navigability of the Magdalena River (Master
Plan) requires 1.3 billion dollars, which has been approved since 2009 and awarded to the
consortium Navalena (87% of the Brazilian company Odebrecht and 13% of the Colombian
company Valorcon), The 30% of works will be maintenance and dredging, and enabled, in a
year of execution (before the end of 2015), 650 kilometers from Barrancabermeja and
Barranquilla. The remaining 70% in channeling works (250 kilometers) will be opened two
years later. Upon completion of the works will be more than 900 kilometers of navigable river
that convoys will transport 7,200 tons, equivalent to the capacity of 240 trucks one after
another. then we will propose a system solution which allows us to tailor the navigability of
the river and also to develop multimodal logistics operations throughout the river basin,
maximizing the navigability of the country's largest naval artery connecting it also with major
productive areas of the country to improve logistics operations, reduce transport costs and
improve the quality of life of people directly and indirectly involved in the ambitious project.
General objectives
Our main objective is to develop, adopt, coordinate and promote the implementation of a
general plan for logistics development (Master Plan) of the largest river system that counts
Colombia.

Importance of the work
Develop this work is fundamental for us as students because we test all the concepts learned in
the course and contextualize a real problem in our country that our generation lives and that of
course affects us as members of this society.
Impact of the proposal for the region
This proposal would be essential to reduce the price of the logistics chain in the country ,
would also have a huge environmental impact by reducing the number of trucks on the roads
of our country, it contributes to the economic development of the surrounding regions by
generating the river employment and improving the quality of life of the region in which these
projects are developed.
Advantages and of the master plan
- For this river we can mobilize about 530 million tons of cargo per year
- This project will connect the entire nation , thus also creating a sense of unity and
progress in all regions of the country.
- It is estimated that transportation costs would be reduced from 30% to 40%
- Nearly 70% of the total population of the country would be benefited by this project
