Chain Stores. Advantages and Disadvantages

Large multinational companies and chain stores has been affecting our lives in different ways. Both have the same purpose benefit as much as they can. Proliferation of chain stores has undermined local economies, eroded community character and impoverished civic and cultural life. On the other hand, consolidation has reduced competition and may cause harm to consumers in the long run. Contrary to the wisdom, the decline of the independent business is not inevitable, nor is simply the result of the forces of the free market. Rather, public policy has played an important role, especially through tax incentives and other subsidies for development that give national chains a significant advantage. Meanwhile, a growing number of communities are taking a different approach. They are adopting the regulations on use of land that discouraging chain stores and actively promote local ownership.

Here in Mexico the disadvantages with this kind of business are higher, for each chain store that is open, at least six local business around are closed  This means that people spent more on unnecessary products that they really matter. This type of business, as well as offering products of first necessity, but at the same time invite costumers to acquire more than they need. Certainly, when each chain store is open the discounts in products are higher than in other places, but there is something to consider is that not in all products apply discounts, it means, for each product with a very good discount other three maintain a fairly high price. Another point, is the way to change the image of cities, they have to consider the architecture of the city where they want to settle. Many times have collapsed buildings with historical value to build one of these stores in the middle of a community where the majority of buildings are part of the tourism of the city. Large areas are changing our citizens negatively. The Government plays an important role in business, acquire benefits of extra cents of customers is one of the ways in which stores evade payment of taxes. They sell us this as a way to help those who have less. Another point is the lack of commitment with the customer. They think only about their own benefits. This has made owners of grocery stores to update the way how they serve to their customers, innovating to make more attractive the way how they sell their products. It is a constant competition with the big stores, creation of precarious and low quality of jobs.

As everything has a positive side, this is not the exception. These stores offer a wide range of products. Turists can find products from their countries, and know the products from another places. The variety on products and have helped to push down some prices. Another good point, is that chain stores open almost all the day, and even in holidays. Offering jobs is another point in favor, produce ways to earn money is one of the important things of these, maybe with a little payment, and benefits too small.
