For the last two or three decades, the environment and the damage the human kind has caused to it have been one of the main issues for the world’s society, including the Spanish one. A lot of initiatives have been taken to try and solve this situation. Nevertheless, there is still a lot to do.
To begin with, the different governments we have had in Spain for the last thirty years have implemented a series of measures and rules trying to reduce pollution which is among the most important factors affecting our environment. The last measures taken by the current government include establishing a new hydrological project to guarantee an egalitarian supply of water throughout Spain. The government will also try to get to new agreements with companies and firms to encourage more respectful actions towards the Environment such as taken care of the waste in an efficient way or drawing a map with the polluted soils.
At a more personal level, I can tell that I try to be ecological at home. I try to follow the measures with regards to recycling. For example, I had three rubbish bags at home, one for paper, another one for plastics and one last one for organic waste. Furthermore, I try to save up in the use of water. For instance, I do not leave the tap open when I am brushing my teeth or I switch off all the lights that I do not need to save energy.
Last but not least, I personally believe that another kind of measures should be taken to try and improve the situation with the Spanish environment. For instance, they should try to improve the biodiversity of the country which has resulted much damaged through these last decades. They should try to recover some species as the Iberian Lynx or the Iberian wolf. They could also promote and help the different National Parks which fight for the conservation of the Environment. Moreover, they should change the current coastline laws into harder ones so that building companies start respecting these areas. Finally, they should go beyond todays protocols signed with respect to helping the Environment, i.e., Kyoto or Rio de Janeiro. We should develop new strategies to face the problem because, up to now, we are very far from fulfilling the requirements established in these two conventions.
Nonetheless, all the laws implanted and the measures taken have not been enough to sort out this really difficult problem we are facing. Therefore, we need to keep working harder and harder if we want to leave a planet as nice, clean and safe as the one we received as children.
