SAME-SEX COUPLE ADOPTION

Gay adoption is also referred to as same-sex adoption. It allows couples of the same gender to be legally recognized as parents of a minor. In some situations, the child may be the biological child of one of the parents. This situation can occur when the parent divorces or the parent’s spouse dies, and the parent has a change in sexual preferences and finds a partner of the same sex. While there are traditional arguments against gay adoption, there are also pros of gay adoption.

In one hand, a guy in a stable same sex household can have a positive effect on his health and his psychological development, in the same way as if he was in a heterosexual stable family. Children with gay parents have more empathy with others and they are more comfortable with the problems of human diversity. These guys tend to have more freedom to express themselves outside the norms of standard gender roles. The boys feel freer to explore traditionally feminine aspects of their personalities while the girls have more easily traditionally masculine qualities. In other words, boys who grow up with gay parents are less likely to feel ashamed to participate in dance, cuisine, fashion or arts while girls are more likely to feel comfortable participating in sports and occupying traditionally male professions.

In the other hand, it’s important to consider the idea that children who are adopted by gay parents will be teased as they grow. Children could be unkind sometimes, especially with other children whose life is somehow unusual. Has been adopted by two women and two men it’s just another problem who a child has to fight with at the school. A child being adopted by a same-sex couple takes the risk of suffer psychological abuse due to they may adopt characteristics of the same couple.

Finally, adoption is a way to create family, and a family as other institution is a social product susceptible to changes. Although, same-sex couple adoption is looked upon with disapproval by society, in my personal opinion I think that it would not be right to denied the opportunity to a child to grow up in a family willing to provide the basic needs for his comprehensive development. Also, the couple would not have the experience of having a family.
