INTRODUCTION
Humanity faces a number of global challenges that cover areas such as inequality, climate change, pollution, poverty and the tension between religion and science. These problems have a significant impact on society, the economy and the environment, and require global solutions.
In this topic we will learn about the principal and some of the most important challenges facing humanity, we will also look at possible solutions to these problems that humanity has to go through today.
DEVELOPMENT
As the world's only truly universal organization, the United Nations has become the principal area for addressing issues that transcend national boundaries and cannot be solved by any one country acting alone.
Some of the most important problems facing humanity today are:
Poverty
Poverty rates in the world have been reduced by more than half since 2000, the COVID-19 pandemic increased poverty worldwide to affect an additional 500 million people, or 8% more of the world's total population. One of the resolutions that can be made is to support relief programs: Contribute to sponsorship programs, donations and food banks that provide access to food, education and medical attention.
Food
The food security and nutritional status of the most vulnerable population groups is likely to deteriorate further due to the socioeconomic and health impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic. Resolution: Agricultural development and food distribution: Promote agricultural development and food distribution to ensure that global agricultural production is sufficient to feed the entire planet.
Climate change
Climate change is one of the greatest challenges of our time. From changing weather patterns that threaten food production to rising sea levels that increase the risk of catastrophic flooding, the effects of climate change are global in scale and unprecedented in scope.
Human Rights
Promoting respect for human rights is a fundamental objective of the United Nations and defines its identity as an organization for people everywhere. Member States have mandated the Secretary-General and the United Nations system to help them reach the standards set out in the Charter of the United Nations and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
Disarmament
Multilateral disarmament and arms control have been central objectives for the United Nations since its inception, as its founding mission is to keep international peace and security.
