A Real Giant

In China, his name is “little giant” in the west, they call him “great wall”. Yao Ming is 7 feet 6 inches (2.29

meters) tall. He was born on September 12, 1980, in shanghai china. His parents were both tall. Their beds were

extra-long, and their clothes and shoes were in special large sizes. Both were successful basketball players.

Yao wasn`t interested in basketball as a child. He was tall but very thin, and he wasn’t very strong. Yao`s parents

were very encouraging, and by his 12 th birthday, he was serious about the basketball. His progress at Shanghai`s

sports academy was excellent. Soon he was on his local youth team. Yao`s big chance to play for the Chinese

national team was in 1999 in the Asian cup. By 2002, he was a member of the Houston Rockets, one of the top

professional teams in U.S. At the opening ceremony of the Olympic games in Beijing in 2008, he was the flag

carrier for the entire Chinese team and a member of the basketball team.

Yao Ming is a celebrity, and his smiling face appears in commercials around the world. He has fans everywhere.

In his free time, Yao Loves to go home to china and enjoy his mom`s cooking. He says he misses hanging out

with his friend at home and going to internet cafes to play video games.

En China, su nombre es “El pequeño Gigante” en el oeste, lo llaman “La gran pared”. Yao Ming media 7 pies y 6 pulgadas (2.29 Metros) de alto. El nació el 12 de septiembre de 1980 en Shangai, China. Sus padres, ambos eran altos. Sus camas eran Extra Largas, y sus ropas y zapatos eran tamaños largos especiales. Ambos eran exitosos jugadores de baloncesto.

A Yao no le interesaba el baloncesto cuando era niño. Era alto pero muy delgado, y no era muy fuerte. Los padres de Yao

eran muy alentadores, y para su 12avo cumpleaños, iba en serio con el baloncesto. Su progreso en La academia de deportes de Shanghai

era excelente. Pronto estuvo en su equipo juvenil local. La gran oportunidad de Yao de jugar para

The Simpsons a cartoon family

The Simpsons started as a TV comedy series in 1990, and the program is still a big hit around the world

today. Critics and fans say it gives TV’s truest and funniest picture of American family.

Matt Groening created the Simpsons in 1987 as a comic strip. He named the characters after the members of

his family: his father homer, his mother Margaret (Marge) and his sister Lisa and Maggie. He called the main

character Bart. This came from the letters of the word brat, which means a naughty child.

The Simpsons live in the community of Springfield. Homer, the father, works as a safety inspector at a

nuclear power plant. He is crazy about the doughnuts, and he always gives bad advice. Marge is loving

mother and wife. Bart is a 10 years’ old who is always getting into trouble. Lisa is a smart 8 years old, who

loves to play the saxophone. And Maggie, the baby, communicates with her pacifier.

At first, Bart was the main character in the series. But after some time, homer and others characters in town –

like Ned Flanders, Mr. Burns, Moe became popular and had special episodes about them.

Some people don’t like the program they say that Bart Simpson is a bad role model for their children, and

Homer is bad example of a father. But what family is perfect?
