Introduction
The world we live in is the result of many years of technological development and research. This allowed us to be able to communicate with people from around the world in real time, and so globalization was born. We can now do business from people in different countries, with completely different cultures and goals.
This has brought great benefits to companies; it gives them more options for suppliers, and also for customers. Now the whole world is a market of potential buyers and businesses can reach out to a lot of people and improve their earnings. Globalization has definitely improved business practices and it has created a way for business owners to communicate with each other even when being on the other side of the world.
Outsourcing has become a common practice for many companies that want to reduce costs and improve their efficiency. Tasks such as customer service and research and development are now being done at countries such as India and China. This allows business owners to cut down on costs and also to take an advantage of the knowledge of people from other places.
When dealing with people from other countries we cannot do it the same way we do it in our own country. Different cultures mean different ways of doing things, and different expectations from the people we’re dealing with. If a company wants to have a good relationship with its workers and suppliers from other countries they must first understand their culture and learn the appropriate way to do business with them.
Handbook for expatriates
When you travel abroad you have to be conscious that not all the countries have the same culture than yours and you must be respectful with such differences. Firstly before you go to another country, you might read or study the culture of it, what can you do or what is prohibited because if you don’t have any idea of what to do there you probably will get in trouble and they can feel offended. There are many cultural differences between U.S.A and India for example the American culture is a mixture of different cultures and the Indian is a unique and has its own values and customs, another difference between them is in family relations because the Indians are more family oriented and respect their values while the Americans are individual oriented and they prefer their jobs and success before their families. In the American culture they have more freedom and been independent and in the Indian culture they are not, their elders are the ones that take the decisions for them. Indians are more competitive than Americans and they work for their family’s needs. Both have democratic culture so that is not a big problem. India is a service-based culture in everything, the people are very accessible and helpful and you can find everything at a relatively low cost. One big difference is that Indians don’t wear shoes inside their house whereas Americans do.
In the case of Mexico the big difference between India and U.S.A is the language because here in Mexico we only speak Spanish but some who live in the North of the country near U.S.A speak English. There is no such many differences between Mexico and India, they are more similar that we thought, for example both talk a lot and have a much closed family relation and respect their family values. The cities in these countries are very noisy und crowded. The only huge cultural difference between Mexico, India and U.S.A is that in India the cows are sacred and they don’t eat meat while in Mexico and U.S.A we eat a lot of meat as in grills.
Now a days the use of technology in all the world has increased favourable that offered a set of services that aim to improve the people’s quality of life and how to face to its environment. Also the technology is very important and useful for researches or to have communication all over the world. We know that India is one of the countries with greater poverty but with great development of technologies. They developed a software technology park that is where companies can go and invest in the software production and computing devices with the outsourcing and offshore they find everything related with the production of it. In Mexico we have also good technological advances and we received different foreigners from all over the world to help companies here in the technological areas. In both countries they are updating computing devices and software inside the companies but the advantage in India is that they have professionals who are constantly innovating their software or technological devices compared with Mexico that give preference to other things.
The recruitment process in India is not that different from the one used in Mexico or the United States. The objective of the recruitment process is basically the same; to place the suitable candidate in the right job profile. The main difference among these recruitment processes are the steps it takes to select a candidate for the job. The recruitment process in India usually is composed by three important steps, which are Application Short Listing, Preliminary Assessment and Final Interview & Selection. Mexico adds two more steps making a total of five steps: Career Opportunity and Application, Initial Telephone Interview, First-Round Interviews, Assessments, and Second-Round Interviews. The United States has even one more step than Mexico with a total of six stages of recruitment: Job Advertisement and Expression of Interest, Initial Screen, First Interview, In-Person Interview, Job Offer Acceptance, and On boarding.
