FORMS OF EXPRESSION OF FUTURE IN ENGLISH
I. PRESENT CONTINUOUS AS FUTURE
You can use the Present Continuous Tense to express Future Time in English. This is when you add any reference to the future. For example:
I’m having lunch with my family (P. Continuous)= Estoy almorzando con mi familia
But, if we say
I’m having lunch with my family next Saturday(P.Continuous+ Future reference)
Voy a almorzar con mi familia el próximo Sábado.
NOTE: This form is one of the most common expressions of Future in English
II. SIMPLE FUTURE
This form is the product of the use of the auxiliary WILL plus the Infinitive form of the verb. Its use is restricted to situations when you are ABSOLUTELY SURE that the action will occur in the Future and also when you make a decision at the time of speaking.
Aff.= Subject+WILL+ ------------+ Rest of the Sentence. Example: I will call you tomorrow.
Verb (Te llamaré mañana)
Definitivo
Neg.= Subject+WILL NOT+ ------------+ R.O.S. Example: I will not call you tomorrow.
WON’T Verb (won’t)
(No te llamaré mañana)
Definitivo
Int.= (Question+ WILL+ -------------+ R.O.S. ? Example: Will you call me tomorrow ?
Word Verb (¿ Me llamarás mañana ? )
When will you call me ?
( ¿ Cuándo me llamarás ?)
III. BE + GOING TO+ VERB ( Infinitive)
This form is a combination of the use of the auxiliary BE plus the fixed expression GOING TO, and a verb in its Infinitive form. In meaning , it is equivalent to the use of the Present Continuous as Future (See I.) It expresses an INTENTION to perform a future action . In Spanish, the translation would be something like IR A ........... . Example:
I’m going to visit my family ( Voy a visitar a mi familia)
