Governments should pay musicians and artist to play and perform on the streets
Lately it has been announced that the government of Spain doesn’t want artists to work on the streets as they are doing these days. It has claimed that the streets of our Spanish cities aren’t suitable to show what musicians and performers are able to offer us. Nevertheless, a number of artists and citizens as well, have suggested that governments should pay them for working on the streets.
Undoubtedly, there are many streets and squares in different cities which are full of artists. These places are located in the city centre of tourist cities as they are crowded all day long. Consequently, artists try to take advantage of this situation and draw passers-by attention to do for a living. Artist and some citizens explain that these places wouldn’t be well-received and striking without performers and musicians working there. Moreover, they declare that they are a tradition in these places, so it shouldn’t be changed and what’s more they add that governments must take into account that most people are absolutely delighted with this kind of free art. For that reasons, many people claim that they should earn a salary because they are working to offer us shows and to increase tourism in cities.
On the other hand, governments which agree to get rid of street artists assure that they bother citizens and are a source of attraction for robbers, pickpockets and other scammers. Dozens of councils have imposed taxes to everyone who plays music or performs a show on the streets. These taxes are so expensive that it is impossible to pay them and get money left. Thus, the number of street artists is being reduced dramatically since these laws began to be enforced.
By and large, there are people and governments who believe that artists and musicians must perform in theatres or other suitable facilities and besides, they mustn’t be on the streets begging for money. In contrast, others support musicians and performers and ask for legalizing their working conditions.
