Uruguay Tourism
Introduction:
Uruguay, officially: Eastern Republic of Uruguay (ESP: República Oriental del Uruguay) it’s a country located in South America and the Capital is Montevideo.
It borders Brazil on the northwest and Argentina on the west and it has coast in the Atlantic Ocean on the southeast and on the Rio de la Plata on the south.
The tourism is one of most important sectors of the Uruguayan economy.
Uruguay has a lot places of tourist attraction. Some are building attractions but principally are natural features because of your big quantity of coastlines.
In this written assignment let´s to see them.
Montevideo
- Avenida 18 de Julio: (18 de Julio Avenue) it’s the main avenue that’s run through the Obelisk to Independence Square. There are many shops, restaurants, bars, cinemas, theaters, squares, billiards, bowling, the Intendance with its esplanade, fountain of locks, Tristán Narvaja fair, and historic buildings. And in the Independence square we can find some icons of the city such us: Salvo Palace, Solís Theater and the Puerta a la Ciudadela.
- Ciudad Vieja: (Old Town) Place during the day works as a financial center, and at night becomes ideal for a drink or dinner in its pubs and restaurants. A place to get lost in its streets, watching the historic buildings of the Uruguayan capital and landmarks such as the Mercado del Puerto, Metropolitan Cathedral, Solis Theatre, Puerta de la Ciudadela, Peatonal Sarandi, Matriz Square, Cabildo, Torres García Museum and others.
- Puerta de la Ciudadela: (Gate of the Citadel) is the old gate of the wall that protected the city during the colonial era, when the city was still in the hands of the Spanish Empire.
Just a few sections of the wall, including the Gateway to the city, which is now known as Old Town is preserved.
- Mercado Del Puerto: (Port Market) Opened in 1868. Originally, consisted in a market of fruit, vegetables and meat to supply vessels berthed at the Port of Montevideo. Today, under its old iron structure, functions as a gastronomic tour, where you can find many restaurants both inside and outside the market.
Ideal for testing the Parrillada Uruguaya with his typical roast beef accompanied by a "half and half" (Uruguayan drink half a glass of white wine and half a glass of champagne).
- Rambla: (promenade) it is one of the main attractions of the city. This avenue follows the route of most of the city on the Rio de la Plata.
More than 30 km of promenade where you can see beautiful sunsets.
Along the promenade is Ramirez, Playa Pocitos and Playa Malvin, the Port of Yachts Diving, Faro de Punta Carretas, Rodo Park, Hotel Casino Carrasco, Virgilio Square, monuments and museums.
- Parque Rodó: (Rodó Park) is the park most famous of Montevideo a few minutes from the ciudad. It is a large green area with a small lake and it’s located on the coast of Rio de la Plata, where the people go to exercise, study outdoors, do a picnic, listen "candombe" on Sundays, sit and drink "mate", eat fried cakes, or simply enjoy the views of the River de la Plata. In addition, there is one of the beaches of Montevideo: Playa Ramirez. And around we have the Mercosur building, the Summer Theater, a quarry and a small amusement park.
- Estadio Centenario: (Centenary Stadium): Is the main stadium of the country and one of the most important monuments of world football. In this Stadium during the final of the first FIFA World Cup in 1930, Uruguay was crowned champion.
Next to Centenary Stadium is the Football Museum where you can take a tour through the history of Uruguayan football.
Punta Del Este
It’s located in the department of Maldonado.
In addition to the famous beaches, there are many tourist sites to visit in the seaside resort throughout the year:
- Casapueblo: Created by Carlos Páez Vilaró: On the cliffs overlooking the sea, the Uruguayan artist installed his atelier and museum that also works as a hotel and restaurant. Casapueblo is one of the most visited sites of Maldonado coast for four reasons: its sculptural architecture, your artwork, the natural beauty of its surroundings and hotel service offered.
- Laguna Del Sauce: (Willow Lagoon). This large body of water (more than five thousand hectares) is one of the favorite sites of tourists for water sports and ecotourism sites. It is the largest reserve of fresh water Maldonado, lined with forests and beaches where tranquility reigns.
- Isla de Lobos and Isla Gorriti: (Island of Lobos and Gorriti Island) from the harbor you can hire a boat trip to these two islands: natural emblems of puntaesteña coast. Gorriti Island is so attractive for its natural beauty and its historical buildings, as it was important field battles during the 19th century. On the island of Lobos lives one of the largest colonies of sea lions in the world.
- Design District: Installed on Pedragosa Sierra Avenue and Italy Avenue where numerous locals of interior design are. It is a walk specifically designed for the visual enjoyment, in a quiet and much wooded area.
In addition of decorating stores and clothing stores, there are elegant hotels and high-end restaurants.
- El Jagüel: (The Jagüel): this park is one of the best rides to do with the family. It is known for its wood sculptures shaped like animals. It has games to child and trails for outdoor activities. There are horses that can be rented to tour the park.
- La Barra: (The Bar) a twenty kilometers from the Peninsula, the area of La Barra is known as the hot point of the season, which brings together the most famous and attractive spa people. From the rolling bridges over the Arroyo Maldonado until Manantiales wave’s surfers, there are many attractions of La Barra, characterized by its sophisticated and bohemian style. Some of the busiest clubs in the night are in this area.
Colonia Sacramento
It is a Magical city built on the banks of the Rio de la Plata, known as one of the best tourist places in Uruguay for history lovers. Declared World Heritage Site by UNESCO.You can walk through narrow streets of stone and colorful colonial architecture.
