HEAVY INDUSTRY

It is based on the production of machines and energy. Among them are the metallurgical, steel, petrochemical, and nuclear industries.

  • I. Metallurgical: dedicated to the transformation of metallic minerals. They use metal refinery.

  • I. Steel: it is dedicated to the transformation of iron into steel, it is considered the basic industry.

  • I. Petrochemical: dedicated to transforming oil into different derivatives. They use oil refineries.
  • I. Nuclear: dedicated to the investigation and use of autonomous energy. It mainly produces medicines and some radioisotopes.

Example:

  • Creation of iron and steel for construction.
  • Creation of stainless steel for forks, spoons, pots.
  • transformation of oil in refineries for fuel.
  • Drug production.

LIGHT INDUSTRY

Use, consumption or light industry: Textile industry, sugar industry, dairy industry, oilseed industry, milling industry, canned fish industry, beverage industry.

  • I. Textile: they are dedicated to the elaboration of fabrics. It uses raw materials such as cotton, wool and synthetic fibers.

  • I. sugar bowl: it is dedicated to the elaboration of derivatives of the Sugar Cane.
  • I. Dairy: also called the dairy industry.
  • I. Oilseed: they produce oil, for this they use cotton seeds, olives, fish oil and the fruits of the oil palm.
  • I. Miller: uses wheat as raw material.
  • I. canned fish: the industries are located in the coastal cities.
  • Iof drink: soft drinks and alcoholic.

Example:

  • Canned fish for human consumption.
  • Cotton, wool, for garments.

HOMEWORK 1-A

Oak Wood: oak wood is a wood with a density of around 710 kg/m3, considered heavy or semi-heavy with straight grain and coarse grain.

  • Example: ship building

Glass: glass, metal or other material container, usually cylindrical in shape, used for drinking.

  • Example: Normally it is used to transport liquids to other containers.

Fiberglass: they are very fine strands of glass woven into different configurations or different shapes to form a cloth or mesh. In this way, a flexible material is acquired, very resistant to heat, light, resistant to many chemical products, good electrical insulator and cheap.

  • Example: telephone wiring, internet or cable television.

Aluminum: it is a metal of low density and extremely light, soft, malleable and silvery-white in colour.

  • Example: beverage cans, pots and pans.

Cement: it is a fine and soft powder that is used as a binder because it hardens after being in contact with water. It is produced from a mixture of limestone and clay, calcined and subsequently ground.

  • Example: foundations, floors, lintels, walls, walls or ceilings.

Gold: it is a very dense, soft metal with an intense yellow color. Gold is classified as a heavy and noble metal; in trade it is the most common of the precious metals.

  • Example: it has recently been used as a useful component in electronics, due to its electrical conduction and its resistance to corrosion.

Cotton fiber: cotton is a soft, natural fiber that grows on the seeds of the cotton tree. The cotton bush or plant grows in tropical areas and belongs to the Malvaceae family. Globally, cotton is one of the most traded fibers.

  • Example: making t-shirts, t-shirts.

Lycra or elastane: it is a synthetic fiber that arises from the reaction of two prepolymers. These are macrogicol, which is more flexible, and disocionate, which is more rigid. It is used above all to provide greater elasticity to garments.
