Procter & Gamble used innovation in the market, first they tried to launch something similar to the now tide pods but failed in the market, they didn’t do enough research and development also I think they didn’t do well the taste part, why? Because at first they launched a tablet of soap that their function was supposed to dissolved in water but they didn’t notice that the tablet dissolved only in hot water and customers began to complain about the product, so now they research and discovered a new technology about the dissolution of the plastic so they create a pods of soap that with the minimum humidity they dissolved completely and now they have satisfied customers and a billion of earnings.
A. Research and Development
They do surveys to know the problems about the detergent usage and the found that the big detergent bottle was too heavy to carry for people who lived in apartments, costumer believed that the suggested measure didn’t clean well or good their clothes, also costumers get confused about what was the right detergent that they need to use in different type of situations.
B. Design
The benefit that they used to identify their new product in the market was the easy way to carry specialized for all types of washing, also using cold water clean. They discover a water-soluble-film company and hired them to create a film that can dissolve if the palm of human had a little of humidity and also had to be soft and with a kind of marbles with tree types of different colors that would distinguish tide from other products.
C. Prototyping
The scientists had to figure out the way to combine the detergent, bleacher and other things in one pod, so as I mentioned in the previous section, after a 450 sketches and itineration P&G developed a pod with tree sections with different colors, so each section had their function in the washing process.
D. Testing
The tasting section took place in The Becket Ridge Innovation center, this center includes a simulated house were people was observed, recorded and analyzed about the way they do their laundry, this research showed a good results, 97 percent of the tasters were satisfied with their laundry using tide pods.
E. Manufacturing
P&G declined to detail the problems of manufacturing, but we know that they need different type of machines that they had before, why? They needed a different process of manufacturing and as we can deduce they didn’t were enough prepared so they were in need to postpone the release date.
F. Marketing
Due to the extension of the date of the release of its product, P & G was in some trouble because by the time of February other detergent brands were already brought to market too similar to the pods tide, but this was not a big problem for them because tide is the most recognized and best-positioned brand in the world.
