PAST PROGRESSIVE
We use the past progressive to talk about an action that was in progress at a certain time in the past, an action at some point in the past.
Past continuous is very similar to the Present Continuous. The only difference is that in the present continuous we use the verb to be in the present (am/is/are) but with the past continuous we use the verb to be in the past (was for I, He, She, It. Were for they, we, and you)
Positive form
Subject + was/were + verb + ing + Complement
Examples:
- Larry was watching an action movie
- They were working very hard
- Pablo was eating pizza last night
Negative form
Subject + was/were + not + verb + ing + Complement
Examples:
- Karla wasn’t eating because she was on a diet
- Lorena wasn’t watching TV.
- Jose and Pedro weren’t going to school
Yes/No Question Short answer
was/were + Subject + verb + ing + Complement?
- were they working last night? Yes they were/ No they weren´t
- Was Pablo doing his guide at 6 am? Yes he was/ No he wasn´t
- Were you playing x-box all night? Yes I was/ No I wasn´t
Information Question
Wh question + was/were + Subject + verb + ing + Complement
- Who were you going to the movies yesterday with?
- Where was she eating this morning?
- What was Larry doing yesterday morning?
