The following is an observation realized at Cabrillo Children Center in the area designed for preschools children. This observation is focused in children’s connection with nature, thirst for adventure and fascination with power.

Preschool observation # 2

Dezy.     DOB:   09/27/2013.

A)    A brief description of the assignment, context, and the child.

The following is an observation realized at Cabrillo Children Center in the area designed for preschools children. This observation is focused in children’s connection with nature, thirst for adventure and fascination with power.

The child I was observing is Dezy who is almost three years old.

I was in the Preschool room observation around 11:00 a.m. There were 7 caregivers and 20 preschoolers, ages between 3 and 5.

The physical environment was really interesting, inside the classroom, they have a literacy area, in which they have a variety of books, and they also have a comfy couch where children can sit, relax and read. They have a block area where there are plenty of wood blocks with different shapes, they also have wood signal of transit, toys, rules, etc. they have a dramatic area, where they have a mini kitchen, kitchen utensils, fake fruits and vegetables, a table, dolls with different skin color, clothes for the dolls, they have a playdough table and a manipulative area where they have puzzles and other manipulatives. They also have an art area, where children are welcome to do different art activities using their imagination, the only thing they do is providing them with different materials that are set in a table in the center of this area, they also have different colored paints, and paper in case they want to paint something.

When I started to observe, the children were having lunch. There were two caregivers and 7 children sitting at the table. Dezy was barefoot and her leg was tucked under her thigh and she was sitting on it.  

Anecdotal observation # 1

Dezy went toward the sink was, she opened the faucet and put some soap on her hands, then she started to rub, then she close the faucet and she grabbed a towel, she dry her hands and then she tried to threw  it into the trash can, but the towel fell out of the trash can. She looked down and really quickly pick up the towel and she put it right in the trash can. A few seconds later, one of her classmates left the faucet open, and started walking toward the block area, Dezy said, “  (name: I didn’t hear the name) you left the faucet open, you are wasting water” the boy replied. “I forgot to close the faucet, I am sorry” Dezy said, “that’s fine, next time make sure to close it, because my mom told me that is very important to take care of the water…..”

Anecdotal observation # 2

Dezy and another girl were at block area, outside the classroom. Then, both of them got into a big wooden box that was there, they got sit and they both started to talk. Then, Dezy said “What if there is a spider inside this box?” Dezy’s friend Replied, “I’m really scared, let’s get out of here” then, both of them got out of the wooden box, and they started to look inside the wooden box, a few seconds later Dezy said, “There is nothing here, besides the spiders are friendly” then she asked to the other girl, “Do you have spiders at your house?” the other girl replied “No, I don’t like Spiders” Dezy said, “ I have spiders at my house, but they just live there…..”
