Dream Act

Imagine you’re in high school it’s your senior year and, you cannot wait to graduate with the friends you have known your whole life. You could not be happier; you start applying for your favorite universities and financial aid. When your parents tell you that you are residing in the United States illegally; your dreams for further education have been crumbled. Even though you were the best in your class, did a lot for your community, and did everything you were told was going to help you for college; you realize that all your hard work was for nothing. This is what many undocumented students are going through right now. For students like this the United States Congress should pass the Dream Act. The dream act would allow many students that are facing this problem to apply for legal residency in order to attend college or enroll in the military. The Dream Act should pass; it would open doors for the United States, help the economy, and give a chance to those students who really deserve it.

The Dream Act would not only open doors to undocumented students but it would also open doors for the future of the United States. Gaby Pacheco (2009) an undocumented student argued, “This is not an immigration bill. It is an Education bill”. Currently there are 65,000 undocumented students graduating from high schools around the United States and many of their dreams get pushed behind do to the fact that they can’t afford it. Many of these students have a huge potential but will never be able to fulfill their potential. Some of these students are the key to the future of the United States. There are even students that have worked harder than any student to get to college, but due to this fact they will not be able to go to college. By giving them a chance the United States would show their interest in growth. Some of these students are leaders in their communities. They are doing things like volunteer work, participating in school activities, clubs, and many other things. Students like this should have a chance of following their dreams. Having more college graduates would give the United States new and diverse points of view to see the issues in a different prospective. The dream Act would be beneficial to these students because they’re not only making an impact in their community but the future if the United States.

Sometimes being little means that you don’t have a voice to choose whether you can stay in one place or just leave it behind. Many of these undocumented kids are brought here without being asked. Their parents do it for many reasons for a better life to get away from violence, but whatever this reason might be the kids should not be punish for something that they had no choice on. Many kids have lived their life their whole life without knowing they are not legal citizens. The kids have only followed whatever the parents have decided for them. The parents are not to be blamed because they were searching not only for a better life for themselves but also a better life for their kids. What many might call the American dream? It might not be right because they knew that coming here would mean being illegal
