These, among others, are some ideas that the author has as potential research projects. But still there is no clear definition, since throughout the Master Program could spark new ideas. However, the ideas reflect the areas of interest of this writer.
Idea Research Project 1: Art and Power: Art as object and art as a subject of power in context of repression.
The principal object of this research idea is to analyze the relation of these two socio-cultural phenomena (Art and Power ) in sociopolitical context of repression. We believe that the idea that art is valuable and authentic only when it is kept out of power, and its only interest is to communicate the pretensions or representations human creative (or rather the artist in this case) would be inconsistent with reality.
Considering the above, it raises at least three central ideas around which reflection would take place (ideas that could become working hypotheses):
a) In a social and political context that possesses as characteristic elements the lack of freedom and therefore the presence of suppression, artistic creation is modified, being influenced by the context. In other words, when it hinders the freedom of creation, the art would acquire a commitment in relation to power. Since the art requires the creative freedom to be able to express themselves, in these contexts is reflection - and at the same time reflects- (as object or subject) of the characteristics of the environment in which is develops
b) It would not be possible for the human subject, stay out of power. So the creation "pure" would not be possible because the artist would object of Power and permeated by it.
c) Art has been and is used for power in several ways: to establish a specific discourse, communicate a message, construct legitimacy, and so on. In this sense many political regimes, individuals and groups who hold a significant level of power, have done, and do, use of art in its various forms to establish or construct Hegemony.
d) From another perspective, the Arts-and thus the artist would be subject of power. That is, the artist would have the possibility not be a passive agent in front of power, but will acquire leadership to establish itself as transgressor and critical element of the status quo.
For reflection of the above items would be considered a look at specific cases where we can find this relation between art and power. Specifically, we think in the socio-political and cultural reality of some countries in Latin America and, eventually, Norway.
Some key concepts: art, power, culture, hegemony, legitimacy.
Some key authors: Michel Foucault, Pierre Bourdieu, Hannah Arendt, Max Weber.
Research Project Idea 2: The concept of the “Popular” in Norway and Chile from the perspective of Symbolic Violence.
From the study of the use of the term "popular" in both countries and by analyzing its use, definition and appropriation, whether discursively, culturally and even historically, to discover in his background, what Bourdieu calls symbolic violence. This element would arise in hypothetical. The bibliographic review will affirm or refute this approach.
We sought to establish a comparison of the realities in the use
