RALLY ON I

INTRO UNIT

Main Purpose

The purpose of this unit is to provide Ss with some basic classroom language that will enable them to communicate in English at all times during foreign language lessons.

SOCIAL PRACTICES 1. Establishing and maintaining social contacts.

T asks What expressions you use when you greet some one?. 1. Listen to the conversation and repeat. Which one is more formal? 2. Ss will find the next activity information in the previous dialogues. 3. T asks Ss to listen and match. 4. T asks Ss to complete formal and informal greetings conversations and compare with the class.

EXTRA ACTIVITY: T Writes some words in English on the board, divides Ss in teams to role play and practice greetings.

Track 11 Do you use a dictionary? What do you do when you don’t know the meaning of a word?

1. Look at the dictionary entries and circle correct option. 2. Label the dictionary entries (A & B) 3. Listen and underline stressed syllable. 4. T asks Ss to read and circle, underline or check the entries (). 5. Match the name with picture. 6. Ss list on their notebook reference books to look for places, articles or things.

CD-ROM: Hangman activity

EXTRA ACTIVITY: divide the class in half, dictate some words and ask them to find them in their dictionaries. In teams, act them out for the rest of the class.
